Q. For all those expecting Chelsea to beat Barca tonight

Even if (for the sake of argument) Chelsea are a better team than Barcelona, it doesn't follow that the English league is stronger than the Spanish league.

no schit, Gilps.

anyone fancy answering the question ?

How is it possible to answer?

i'm only asking for an opinion, numbnuts - it's not a trick.

A lot of people seemed to be reckoning Chelsea were gonna beat them in the other thread (despite not wanting them to), Arsenal have just beaten a dodgy looking Madrid side and we're the European Champions - was just wondering if people thought it was symptomatic of the Premier League being better than La Liga these days......

that's all.

i think that chelsea will bully and batter their way to a victory over barca tonight, but i don't think that has any relevance whatsoever to the english league being 'better' than the spanish league.

i would still maintain that the spanish league is 'better' than the english league in terms of quality of football played and quality of player playing there.

Yeah but if and when two or three spanish team beat two or three English teams in the CL next year, or whenever then it'll be all talk about La Liga being the strongest etc etc...

I suspect that's the point you're making cobs?

always happens, doesn't it?

Results between the Champions League qualifiers have no real bearing on whether Bilbao, Alaves, Cadiz, Mallorca, Betis and Malaga are superior to Villa, Boro, West Brom, Birmingham, Pompey and Sunderland. Which for me is the real test - a league is as strong as its weakest teams.

What about Villareal finishing top of a group where Utd come 4th? What about Deportivo knocking Newcastle out of the crap cup? Betis beat Chelsea one of the two times despite being relegation candidates. It's pretty equal i'd say.

no, style over hype and bullsh*t.

i don't think la liga is quite the pull it was when valencia and deportivo were amongst the best teams in europe, but it's still got bigger name players than the premiership. that can't all be about the climate.

superior?

think premiership sides will outperform spanish ones in europe this season, yes. mainly thanks to two managers who learnt their trade there.

same is true of italian sides though.

depor, real and valencia are all much weaker than they were two seasons back. still think spain provides the best spectacle though.

2 of the top 3 players in Europe are from the Premiership, btw...

pity the same can't be said for the managers it produces...

true, although it's not to say the Premiership doesn't have the top managers, is it?

i wasn't really looking at the managers when i was comparing the two Leagues - i would struggle to name 3 La Liga managers tbh.

it's not 'mainly' that at all.

players from South America find it easier for them and their families to settle ?
