Liverpool midfielder David Mannix is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his leg playing for the reserves last night.

Mannix sustained a break to the tibia in his right leg against Newcastle and is visiting a specialist on Tuesday afternoon to discover the extent of the damage.

 

The Reds will have a better idea how long he will be out of action for after he sees the specialist.

 

This is the latest in a series of injury setbacks for the 20 year old who has seen his short career blighted by a series of problems.

 

He only returned to action at the start of last season after being out for almost three years with a serious knee injury.

 

Mannix was rewarded for his comeback when he signed a new contract in Christmas 2004 which will keep him at Anfield until the summer of 2007.

Gutted for him. Every game is important when you're 20 years old, so this is really a huge set back. Hope his recovery is quick.
