2024 Olympic Football Tournaments | 24 July to 10 August

The football tournaments at the 2024 Summer Olympics will be held from Wednesday 24 July to Saturday 10 August 2024 in France. 

Two events are to be contested: men's and women's tournaments.

Associations affiliated with FIFA participate in qualifying tournaments to clinch their spots for the Olympics. Men's teams are restricted to under-23 players (born on or after 1 January 2001) with a maximum of three overage players allowed, while there are no age restrictions on women's teams.

 

The mens tournament consists of 16 teams; divided into 4 Groups of 4, with the Top 2 teams in each group qualifying the knockout stages.

The womens tournament consists of 12 teams; divided into 3 Groups of 4, with the Top 2 from each group - and the two 3rd best sides - qualifying for the knockout stages. 

Canada are the women's defending champions, while Brazil were the two-time men's defending champions - but failed to qualify for this Olympics.

Argentina vs Morocco (a 2pm kick off) is/was a bit of an eventful match...

It has been over an hour since the fixture concluded in dramatic and controversial circumstances at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in St-Etienne.

Morocco led 2-1 and were on track for an upset as the game ticked into the 16th minute of injury-time when Boca Juniors midfielder Cristian Medina headed in after the ball had twice come back off the crossbar.

That late goal sparked an angry reaction from some Morocco supporters, who threw bottles and flares onto the field with others invading the pitch.

We understand that the referee postponed the game three minutes before full-time and they are now going to resume the match in an empty stadium.'

Brazil were quality to watch - quick, pressed both well and high - completely disrupting Spain's usual play and forced numerous uncharacteristic errors in the Spanish defence. Brazil could've easily been 5/6-0 up before Spain came back, pulling a goal back, hitting the bar, and forcing a smart save, before more Brazil goals and another Spanish consolation. Spain didn't look anything like World Champions, having only lost 1 game all year... though credit to Brazil for that display.

Should be a cracker of a Final between the US and Brazil, especially if Brazil can play at that tempo with a high press again.
