Weird texts

My wife's got a few odd texts recently, one from a sender called "Free Message" asking her to visit a goo.gl link, then yesterday one which appeared to come from her old company's phone number (as saved on her mobile) saying "Jenny, is this interesting?" followed by another goo.gl link. In both cases I've told her delete the message.

 

Her old work don't think they've been hacked. Has she? How have these messages got her name and how are they appearing as from her contacts? Should she change numbers, format phone, check emails for hacking etc?
