Boilers

The boiler in our house is 27 years old and although it works fine and passes its annual inspection, it is not massively efficient. So we're looking at replacing it. Problem is: do we replace it with a regular condenser or a combi? We use a lot of hot water so having the stand alone immersion heater as well as the boiler is really useful. So the options seems to be to replace with a regular boiler and retain the immersion hearer, or rip eveything out and just have a combi instead.

I keep hearing that cimnbis are rubbish at supplying a decent aamoutn of hot water but they are cheper to run overall.

I would much rather just pay a bit extra and have a decent ready supply of hot water though.

Is that the sensible way forward?

Move your house on top of an underground hot spring.

Best way

combis are s**** if you like luxury

on the other hand, we're all living on borrowed time, 'cos due to impending environmental catastrophe, running hot water will soon be a thing of the past

so perhaps a combi would be best, as a kind of transition between the convenience of today and the hardships of tomorrow

You won't have any problems with the better combies with the correct output. Gotto be a valiant.

You will also be able to get a financial contribution to the work you are having done via a grant under the green deal or whatever it's called.

Too late to edit - We opted for a sealed system with a Vaillant ecotec boiler and a Gledhill hot water cylinder when renovating. The cylinder is great as its future proof and comes with connections for solar/heat pump etc which is something we will look at in the near future. Another benefit of having the cylinder is that if the boiler packs up we can still heat the water as it comes with an electric immersion heater..

Don't worry too much about makes, its a heater and a pump. Spend a decent amount and you'll get a good boiler

As mentioned before most plumbers I've encountered hate W-B boilers as they are over complicated meaning more can go wrong.

Don't encounter too mamy plumbers at home. Must be because of the reliability of my Worcester Bosch boiler.

Got a Valliant boiler to replace the old one which came with the house, no problems in hot water amounts - but there are only two of them.

WB or Valliant are the only names I've heard recommended, think you can spend on a lot on s****.
