Great albums by bands you don't like

All sorts of reasons why I can't stand U2 and yet I have a real affection for their album 'The Unforgettable Fire' and still regularly give it a spin. It does have an association with a lazy summer school holiday in the mid-80s which doesn't hurt, of course, but despite my dislike for pretty much everything else they have ever done, nothing can spoil my relationship with TUF it seems! Even having Eno at the controls couldn't save them after this.

For many it's best known for probably its weakest track (IMO) 'Pride', but the rest are pretty much all gems, wistful, mellow, and technically superb (*Wire!*).

Any other skeletons in closets out there?

I reckon if you think a band has made a 'great' album then you like them

Its not like you are saying they have fluked a boss song

What about if you like one album but hate everything else they've done?

It's not about liking an album, it's about thinking it's great.

I bet no-one would have a band that fits these criteria: you have to think one of their albums is great; you have to HATE every other thing they have ever done; and they have to have done more than just a couple of albums (otherwise the great album would outweigh the stuff you hate).

Oasis the most obvious candidates but does anyone who thinks Definitely Maybe was great hate *everything* since?

(I know the OP said 'don't like' rather than hate but RBM has raised the bar.)

I really dislike everything by Oasis except for Definitely Maybe, which might be a great record, although I'm not sure having not listened to it in years. I loved it when it came out. I don't hate their output like I do with Queen or The Red Hot Chilli Peppers though. So in summary I don't like Oasis at all but think Definitely Maybe might be a great album. So all in all I've contributed nothing really here. But I think you can like an album or think an album is great, without liking the band.

On a totally different subject, I think I'm beginning to hate Peppa f***ing Pig

Should it be bands you think you're too cool and edgy to like?

Everybody on the planet is too cool for Dire Straits, except for Mark Knopfler and Jeremy Clarkson.

Peppa Pig is great but once you've seen every episode a thousand times it's f***ing annoying.

I used to enjoy watching Daddy Pigs latest blunders, but having endured the same episodes over and over, it's starting to get really annoying.

stop watching it?

I've tried that. I get followed around getting oinked at and poked with the remote. It's like some sort of animated opiate.

Mark Knopfler is sound.

That's three of you then. You're keeping some great company there.
