My home insurance is due for renewal on 19th of this month with Direct Line If I cancel it on the 11th October will I be liable for a whole years premiums or will they refund me. Alternatively, I could cancel now but how can I switch it in such a way that they know I have done it because of the situation at Liverpool?

just call them or/and send them a letter stating why you don't wish to renew with them

Just a word of warning, from personal experience regarding changing home insurance - be very careful regarding the t&c's. If you change insurer, and later discover a problem (subsidence for example) that was present before you changed insurer, the new insurer may not be liable and you may be left with a long and troublesome legal battle.

I was wondering if I could let the renewal go through and then pull my business on the 11th. I'm not sure if that would work though. Might be safer just to cancel now.

I've already switched twice since I bought the house so I'm feckied if that is the case anyway.

if there's a way of holding it off til the 11th do it, but if its impossible for you don't sweat it, just find another way to participate on the day that is.

Yes you have the right to cancel the policy during the term. Check the T&Cs for penalties, etc. Best to pay by direct debit so you don't have to get a lump sum back from them.

Or go to the RBS Open Day in Edinburgh on Sept 25/26 and tell the Big Wheel in person you are dumping RBS insurance......wink.gif
