I'm still a bit puzzled by the Riera situation.

Rafa' has to make the tough disciplinary decisions when necessary, that's a "given", but I can't help thinkin' the "dispute" might've been handled differently, in order the team could've still benefitted from Riera's availability, at least until the end of the season anyway.

I'm obviously not as ITK as some on here, but considering the affect the decision has had on our already paper-thin squad, I'm interested to know people's opinions as to whether the decision was the right one in the circumstances.

He'd apparently been sent home from training 3 times for his attitude/conduct before his pathetic little outburst.

f*** him.

Really? t***.

According to the Gurdian, yeah:

Liverpool were "a sinking ship", according to an interview Riera gave to a Spanish radio station, only to be described by the player this week as "one of the best clubs in the world" following Spartak's refusal to offer over £60,000 a week in wages. The U-turn represents a further headache for Benítez, who sent Riera home from training three times for poor behaviour before his radio outburst and, contrary to the midfielder's claims of aloofness from his manager, spoke to the £8m signing on several occasions.

Irks me that a player who has been an asset to the squad in the past is not playing, and especially at a time we need "all hands" to the proverbial "pump", but it sounds like he's made his own bed and left Rafa' little choice.

He's got talent but makes terrible choices when in posession. No great loss to the squad if we can get our money back

The problem being his replacement will no doubt be in the same £7-10m bracket. And be similarly inept

the irony is that when he arrived, we all agreed he gave us much needed width and 'balance'.

When he started out he was working like a motherf***er and one thing I do remember of his first 10 or so games most was he NEVER gave away a ball. Take that forward to Unirea away this year. That was a harry kewellesque standing wanting the ball to his feet and doing f all with it except give it back to the opposition. Including possibly the worst pass I've ever seen where he passed the ball directly to a defenders feet who was 3 yards away.

Whether it be rafa subbing him all the time or whether it be he just doesn't fancy it anymore... what is apparent is he lost his work ethic and convinced himself to be some sort of superstar that didn't need to do the work that others were doing. If he thinks he's getting double his wages at any club he's gravely mistaken as all the need to do is look at his performances the last season and they will run for the hills. His attitude stinks on and what seems off the pitch also.
