The fans are amazing and if I decide to stay it will be because of them. I will fight until the end and will keep going," Benitez told BBC Sport

If you watch the interview he was talking in past tense about how he stayed because of the fans.

exactly, he's used similar language many times. it was just a grammatical lost in translation moment for me. eg "If I am fatter , it is because of the pies"

Just the c**** on SSN who cant take a hint and move on, I'm principally referring to Rafa's comment about being in the 30K or so fans whoknew was a penalty today. The f***ing prick on SSN couldnt just move on but had to ask, ask, ask and f***ing re-ask 4 times, "So, do YOU think it was a pen Rafa".

Makes my blood boil.

That guy, Burton is it, is a complete and utter tool. He's the one they used to wheel into the studio on deadline day, showing him receiving texts off his Mum or whoever. He was interviewing Gray on SSN earlier in the morning, a real case of 'we're a couple of naughty schoolboys giggling at Rafa's plight, but pretending to be serious for the TV'.

I hate to take the focus off that c**** shortcomings, but wish Rafa had retorted ' Yes, I thought it was a penalty, what did you think ?' . If he failed to give an answer, asked some other question, or generally avoided it, then Rafa should have kept repeating the question. Turn the tables on the snivelling little f***.

He didn't say "if I stay it will be because of them" he said "if I stay it was because of them" it's clearly a case of him using Spanish phrasing/sentence structure and translating it straight to English

You could hear the "Rafa, Rafael..." chant on the telly for a tiny bit about ten minutes after the goal, but it seemed to me that on Match of the Day they implied that they were singing his name as he left the pitch at the end as well, prompting the question in the interview.

I love Rafa. We were two minutes away from a perfect week. Reading and Stoke. But we are still one point closer to fourth place, with a banged up squad. Give him the money for a striker and we'll be alright. Maxi's gonna be boss also.
