Lap tops

I need to get a enw lap top for my lad - for school work predominantly but I haven't got a clue - obviously want to pay as little as possible. Any advice where to get the best deal??

If you just one that's nothing special have a look on the currys/pc world website for refurbished ones. Pick a decent enough one up for a few hundred.

I dont' think you can really go wrong with todays laptops - the specs compared to 5 years ago even for cheap ones is incredible and improving every year.

Go with a light weight one* for heavens sake!! He'll thank you for it.

That is of course unless performance an important factor, then it'll get pricey as hell. But I understand that is not the case.

I carry mine around a lot and the extra 0,5-1 kg less it weights makes a huge difference. Just my pennies worth.

 

*but not a netbook.

You can pick up a very decent spec laptop for under £400.

 

Certainly no need to go above that.

 

PC World have some decent ones as do John Lewis and of course there's always Dell.

ibm (lenovo), toshiba, or sony. Second hand / refurbished with a warranty (the lenovo warranties are 3 years and are transferable)

 

See if you can get a dual core 2 duo. And put more ram in it.
