Personally for me it would bring the game of football back to the people that actually matter. Those that go to the games.

It's been dragged for them with stupid days for games. Ridiculous kick off times and stupid last minute changes.

All these things are bad for the real people in football - football fans that go.

Armchair fans nowadays are the most important element and it stinks to high heaven. Real fans that go get f***ed around all season so these people can sit at home/in the pub and see their team - but f*** the stupid b******s that actually go eh?

If this happened tommorow - I for one would be f***ing delighted.

I'd say that the world audience, in todays financial based game, are the ones that actually matter. That's the way the board's of football clubs will see it, as long as they can fill the ground, they want people to watch and revenues to go up so they can spend that money on the pitch.

That said, football should always be played at 3pm on a Saturday, regardless of who's watching.

Did you post this on a horse with your face painted blue ?

It's utter bollucks by the way - there's more muppets at the games these days than ever.

That's true if money is the most important thing in football.

I still believe that it isn't. That normal, decent people that actually go and support the team are the most important thing in football.

Armchair fans? People that watch at home? In the pub? Cannot in anyway compare to those that actually go.

To see the value of this - imagine if every single game was played and shown on television with 100% empty grounds? Would it be the same thing? Would it be as good.

I would strongly suggest that if every game was shown in a totally empty ground would be the time you realise what actually makes football special.

I'd rather talk to people that go to the game about football than d****eads that don't (And yet feel they are experts on the Game because they quote t***s like Andy Gray)

You're a tosser at times Andy. Why do you have to get on your high horse about this subject all the time.

It's not as black and white as match goers and non match goers.

What's your beef? Do you go to the games?

Ah, I see now. This is a veiled attack on the Sky generation.

Still maintain my belief that there are more non-tradionalists (or d****eads in your opinion) at the game than ever. People texting and phoning each other during the game, loons with video cameras, people leaving 5 mins. before half-time just so they get first in the queue for refreshments, jester hats, sh*te club mascots, horrendous goal theme-tunes etc. etc.

As usual though, your gross generalisation of "the fans that matter" is totally wrong.

Not as often as I used to. By you're reckoning I didn't used to be a d****ead but I am now that I only go to a handful a season. Or maybe I'm just a d****ead on the days I don't go but a f***ing legend on the days I do.

The truth is that I've always been a d****ead and always will be - football attendance is no measure of cockness. It's also true that there are plenty of c***s that go the game. Jester hat wearing, silent, video camera wielding w*****s.

You seem to have this massive chip on your shoulder and you want to flex your superiority, when I was a regular I was no better than anyone else, now I'm not a regular I'm no worse than anyone else and my opinion should be no less valid, I don't live on Merseyside anymore, either - double trouble.

Much prefer to go and watch games that kick off at 3pm on Saturday, but unfortunately in that respect football has "outgrown" the match going fan and is now a worldwide entertainment spectacle.

When I first started going to the game it was a major novelty to watch live FA Cup games and the World Cup. Now they are largely just other games that are also televised live, with some games more anticpated than others.

Due to the gloabl appeal of the game (particularly in the premier league at the moment) I don't think we will ever go back to all games kicking off at 3pm on Saturday - not peak viewing time for a start. As fans that get to go to the games we should view ourselves as the lucky ones, rather than pouring scorn on those who watch on TV.

Bizarre thread this, can't quite get my head round whats being asked or subsequently discussed?

What is being discussed is the increasingly stupid kick off times and the powers that be moving fixtures at the last minute.

Now that Thursday has been done - Friday will follow - because the TV Companies overall plan will be to have a game of top-flight football every day of the week.

Brilliant if you don't go.

s**** if you do.

Especially s**** if you (Like several people I know this and each season) have flown over and booked flights/hotels only for the b******s to have moved it at the last minute - I know quite a few people that have been shafted up the a*** like this and lost the ability to go to the match without incurring massive extra charges?

Is it fair for them? Is it fair for travelling fans? No. It isn't.

But for people at home - it's brilliant.

On behalf of all OOT's, and those who watch the match at home because they can't afford the trip or the distance is to far, I would like to apologise for the damage I have done to football.

Scarcely a day goes by when I don't look at myself in the mirror with revulsion at the role I have played in the decline of our great day.

At some point I may summon up the moral courage to go for a walk in the woods with my revolver but until that day comes I can only state the following: "f*** off Andy"

I'm sure our club was a happy signatory to the TV deals that dictated the revised kick-off times. There are still plenty of local football teams that you can go to support whose fixtures are not messed around with in the same way.

I'm sure they were - but most clubs (ours included) don't really give a monkeys about messing fans around as long as they rake the cash in

1) Not everyone can get to the match.

2) You might complain about stupid times of games but believe me you have it easy nowadays.

3) I and many more have done our stint of going the games and cant now for all sorts of reasons, so its great to see some of the games on tv.

4) The game is now global so live with it.

Well maybe we should go back to the days of supporting our home teams, less travelling for starters.

It's an attack on the TV Companies that shaft the fans. And an attack on the clubs which let them.

Andy, would it be fair to say you're a bit disenfranchised?

You owe nothing to football or Liverpool FC, why not just take a break from it competely, or at least from going to the match?

You won't miss anything, believe me, and it will be there when you get back.

I'm curious here. How exactly does TV companies shaft the fans, besides the inconvenience of moving matches?

Honest question, I might not disagree with you.

I look forward to the day when I can watch all the Liverpool games on the box. It'll happen.

As soon as I get a steady income, hopefully for next season, I will get subscriptions to the necessary channels. Probably will cost me about 30£ a month. Won't think twice about it.

I get to see way more games here than when I was in England.

I get to see more than when I was a season ticket holder!

It’s a business and it will be run for the benefit of the shareholders of the business. It stopped being a game a long time ago.

And it’ll carry on being run as a business because people like Andy will go to the match anyway – however much they mess it around.

So Andy – basically you are the problem – not the rest of us. Stop going and the shareholders will listen to the lack of cash in their pockets…
