Decent camping sites in North Wales or Cheshire

I'm looking for a decent camp site in North Wales or Cheshire.

Our other halves have decided they want to do a camping weekend but not too far from home.

It will be tents not caravans.

Can anyone recommend a decent site, with a good boozer (essential) and stuff to do (not too essential!) nearby?

It's a while since we've been camping. But we used to stay in a good site just outside Beddgelert from which there were some decent walks. I think it was owned by the Forestry Commision. There was a decent pub withing walking distance which (at the time) served up the sort of stuff you want to eat after a day's walking (chilli, pie and chips etc) though I've no idea what it's like now. I think the pub was called the Prince Llewelyn

Go to a campsite with all your equipment.

Empty a large container of petrol onto equipment.

Set fire to equipment.

Go to a nice hotel with a bath/shower/bed and bar.

Sorted!

I know it's another stint, but I just thought I'd throw the lake district on the map. Well worth the extra petrol, not all that far from Cheshire, really. Stunningly beautiful.

yerp - we'll be there whit week - didn't suggest it as it's an hours further travel.

Cunny - where are you traveling from & how long do you want to drive for? (just to give me some idea)

Driving from Liverpool.

The weekend we are going, some of the group need to be back in Crosby by Sunday lunchtime.

So, we are looking for no more than a 2 hour drive.
