The lad was boss in the box. Anyone else think he'd be a qualified partner for Torres? I don't think we need to sign another world class player. If he was deployed just behind Torres, he'd be able to weave in and out and feed Torres the ball. He can score goals, as we have seen and I think he can do it. Thoughts?

Edit: apparently on the English commentary they made the same point?

Remember when there were rumours two weeks into the season of him leaving?

Im better qualified to partner Torres than any of the other strikers we have at the club.

We need someone like that. I'm far from sure Benayoun could do it consistently or against the bigger teams but it's cetainly possible and anything's worth a try.

Hopefully Babel could become that person. I still say Garcia would have been ideal for the role.

Babel's poor passing ability will mean that he'll always be more of a goal scorer than a goal provider

Scoring a hat trick against a bunch of part timers isn't exactly a "bright point". Benayoun is a decent player but that's it, he is a squad filler.

Benayoun does seem to have that "poaching ability". He does turn up in some excellent positions in the box. I still have issues with when he releases the ball - not today, but in general - but I'd certainly like to see how he'd do with Babel and Gerrard either side with Torres ahead of him.

He still has to put the ball into the net. He could have had five today.

Funnily enough, the other being against another s**** team.

Should we give them a three goal headstart in future so that Yossi's goals mean something to you?

He still had to be there to put the ball into the net. I hate the way people dismiss the contributions of some of our players because of "the opposition". We can only play what is put in front of us and Yossi was a credit to himself tonight. He was one of the few players who realised it wasn't going to be a walkover and put the work in to try and do something about it. He was a credit to himself tonight.

Agreed. It was the same against an atrocious Besiktas side.

If you watch him closely in a premier league match, he gives the ball away more frequently (yet less spectacularly) than Garcia used to. He's really, really not good enough for a team aspiring to win the premier league.

That would be good for the dressing room spirit and squad morale

Having someone who gives a s*** would be great for a morale.

At the moment we seem to have a collection of over payed s***bags who really couldnt give two hoots about how they play.

b******s. Kuyt clearly gives a f***

And i was going to say that a postive from today could be that people will stop banging on about Babel playing up front, but people are doing it in this thread

Kuyt might be able to match me for effort but I think i might run him close on quality.

Did you see his header attempt at the end?

He has the attributes to be a striker but none of the know how

Lasted 20 minutes up there today before he was moved.

I can't decide whether he needs 6 starts in a row wide right or if he should just be an impact sub

impact sub

depends if you want the impact to be us playing s***ter?

He's frustrating on the right, as like many wide players we seem to end up with he always looks to cut infield and narrows the play. He's a clever player though, and is the sort we need on the pitch when we're trying to break down packed defences. Given the Torres/Crouch partnership doesn't look too clever and Kuyt/Voronin are useless at the moment I'm joining those who reckon Yossi should be given a chance off Torres. He's got an eye for goal as well as he's shown this season.
