just watched the arsenal game and on the loud speak they anounced the attendance as per above.

However afer watching the game, i can not see how on earth they came up with this. there were hundreds of seats emty in every side of the ground. the corporate seats must have only been 80% full. i reckon the attendance was about 50-55.

why do they insist on saying the game was sold out when it was no were near?

they could base 'attendance' on ticket sales rather than turnstile clicks

Yep. Tickets were sold but not everyone turned up.

Not sure, but I am positive that that goes against the Ground Safety Certificate. I will find out on Tuesday.

or they lied?

in the bottom tier of the stand, there must have been a couple of thousand at least that were not there. there were more empty seats in the corporate middle tier. I didnt get to see the top teir, but bearing in mind the are less desirable than the bottom tier, its bound to be the same story as the others.

manu seem to do it as well.

Pretty sure they do it on ticket sales.

As they should - that's the amount of money they brought it.

United definitely do it on sales rather than actual attendance.

Different clubs have different policies on this

I was sure Arsenal were one of the more honest ones though

The empty seta weren't just after half time were they?

They were definitely releasing misleading figures last season. I don't know whether the same policy still applies.

Arsenal have confirmed the suspicions of many visitors to the Emirates Stadium this season, admitting that the club routinely declares misleading attendance figures for home games.

Regular visitors to the new stadium, including season ticket holders and reporters, have noted that, while attendance figures give the impression that it is at or close to its 60,500 capacity, the reality is that at times numerous seats have been empty. Sunday's game against Wigan Athletic was a case in point, with the official figure of 60,049 at odds with the large number of empty seats.

The club confirmed yesterday that the figure announced was for tickets sold rather than actual attendance and that on average as many as 3% of ticket holders - more than 1,800 people - did not take up their seats. The number of no-shows reflects the increase in corporate season ticket holders at the stadium and the club will trial a buy-back system later this year that will allow fans to purchase seats that season ticket holders are not going to take up. Arsenal have decided to run the system in-house rather than use a ticket agency.

hence, they should not be allowed to say 'today's attendance is...' but should be proscribed into saying 'ticket sales for today were...'

It's misrepresentation.
