Saw a post on here criticising Rafa for not using 11M pounds worth of striker in Ryan Babel last night, well whoever it was should take a long look at this.

One of the best players in the Premiership is (spit) Ronaldo who cost Man U over 12M. In his first season he only made 40 appearances in all competitions scoring a grand total of six goals, Ferguson even gave him three months off over Christmas!

Babel has already made 26 appearances with only half of the season gone and already scored six goals.

Sheesh that Rafa mustn't have a clue compared to the footballing God that is Ferguson.

Some people need to take a long look at themselves before throwing their toys around and screaming "we want success" like we have some divine right to it.

How old is Babel?

How old was Ronaldo?

Also... he's a **** and worse but I think Ferguson has proven himself to be a footballing God. He's no Paisley but for feck's sake... he's done it all over 21 years. Benitez may or may not be quite as good as him - there's no shame in it.

(I feel dirty. Can I stress again that Ferguson is indeed a complete & utter ****).

Exactly.

Babel has a lot of potential but I feel he was more of a panic buy than anything.

He's only two years older. Players develop at different rates. Rafa knows far more about handling young players than we do.

We signed him only a couple of weeks into July. A panic buy is someone who comes in a day, maybe even an hour, before the transfer window closes. We could have bought any number of players for £11.5M and would have had six weeks to negotiate the deals - but Rafa chose Babel.

We missed out on Malouda, I think Babel was second choice.

Not saying he's a bad buy but I feel Rafa would have gone for other players if they were available instead.

They do. But YOU used Ronaldo as the example. It may only be 2 years but by that time Ronaldo was already wowing the world.

Ronaldo was 18 when Man U signed him, Babel was 19 when he signed for us.

Wonder how much the 12.4M Utd spent in 2003 would be worth in todays transfer market?

Babel just turned 21 and so couldn't have been 19. Hope that helps. I've posted this several times already, but Babel isn't going to learn anymore from the bench. If he's too mentally fragile, etc at 21 to make an impact from the start, then we shouldn't have signed him. I believe nothing is further from the truth and he'll shine if given the chance.

i think other players proved that they're no better than Babel, to say the least. So why not play him? Is he made of glass? Or does he get tired too often?

I mean Kewell is much worse than him, Benayun is worse, Kuyt and Voronin are worse, too. Or at least, those mentioned players didn't play well, recently. So there should be a sort of punishment for either one of them and Babel should be in first eleven, at least until he proves he's worse than above mentioned.

It's strange, Kuyt is playing almost in all games, even though he isn't playing that well. Kewell has been playing, although, IMO, he's a waste of space.

And comparing to Ronaldo is a bit wrong. First of all, I don't know how many minutes did Ronaldo play and how many minutes did Babel play. Besides, Ronaldo came to United, they had plenty of attacking option even without him(Ruud, Giggs, Rooney, Scholes etc). They did not win league, but they could rely on those proven players.

In Liverpool squad there's only one player, comparable to ManU bunch of that time - Torres. So not playing Babel is much worse, than not playing Ronaldo. They could do without Ronaldo, Liverpool can't do well, without classy attackers

It's not about being mentally fragile, it's called learning your trade and not being rushed. He's got a fair bit to learn in both his positions and does some things very badly, some things very well and is inconsistent. Whilst you're learning it's not always best to be over-exposed too early, bad habits stick as you make do and you dont fully develop. Have we not seen enough of our young prospects over-exposed too early for short term reasons and never fulfill their potential.

Got a bit of the Theo Walcotts...?

Does Arsenal have better players ahead of him who deliver? Adebayor, Van Persie and Eduardo, (Bendtner debatable)

Owen, Fowler, Gerrard?

if you're good enough you're old enough, if Babel at 21 is in danger of not fulfilling his potential by being over-exposed playing 1st team footy now then i'm wondering why we spent £11m when we needed 'that' player now

Owen and Fowler specifically were overused and suffered for it later in life with fitness and development. Gerrard fortunately came through being played through serious injury at a young age. With Babel it was clear from the moment he signed, what was said about him by the manager, he himself, that he more a player for the future than the present.

Thing is for £11m now from what I've seen, you dont get top class for now players in attacking positions, you tend to get a question mark, be that potential and youth or a player that whilst very good has it all to prove and probably aint gonna be a world beater.

I'm no scout, I know the players I know which wont be many if any more than the next one, but I've been wondering where all these current great for now wide and attacking players are that we should be after. I dont see other clubs signing them and nobody is naming them.

disagree with that

you couldn't have held Owen & Fowler back anymore with the talents they were at 18, Gerrard at 19. They were ready for it big style, they played. I don't believe Babel is being held back cos he's still growing or has issues with his hamstrings

Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Butt, the Nevilles - how old were they when they were 1st team regulars?

it don't matter what you pay if the bloke doesn't get to play

i agree - if i knew all the answers i wouldn't be wasting my time posting on here

it's what the club pay someone else millions each year to do
