I read somewhere that Thommo's old school in Kirkby had produced 4/5 European Cup winners.

Does anybody know what the school was and who the players were?

It's my old School too - Brookfield Comprehensive.

I can only think of three - Thommo, Terry Mac (attended Brooky and Roughwood, the other non-dom comp in Kirkby) and Dennis Mortimer, former Aston Villa Captain.

As far as I know that's yer lot.

Where was Peter Withe from?

I think he's from Walton - didn't go to Brookfield Anyway.

FWIW Mike Marsh went to Brooky, John Conteh went to Roughwood, Tommy Caton and Kevin Nolan went to St Kevins. I think Alan Stubbs went to Brookfield too, but I'm not sure.

Kev Nolan was a Bluecoat boy wasn't he?

yeah, I thought Nolan was from Wavertree?

I'd left Kirkby by then, but according to the official 'Knowsley Borough' site, he's from Kirkby, and someone I know who went to St Kev's reckons he went there as well.

KAMF - that was my first thought too, but I suppose it's just about possible? Not sure of the relevant date comparisons.

St Kevin's was long gone when I was secondary school age, and Nolan's 4 years younger than me

Ta - that clears that up then! You got any idea who these other two CL winners could be? I'm stumped.

a propos of nothing, I've just remembered that the bloke who played Terry on Brookside used to have a market stall in the towny, which he still worked on every Saturday, even when the programme was at the height of its popularity
