I mean, I don't think it was this bad even a few years back. We hit a bad patch, fair enough, discussion and debate is all part of it. We all have our own opinions but do we need to be so fickle and negative as soon as we don't get it our way all the time.

We're not fantastic at the minute, we're all of us doubting the rotation policy and team selection, but isn't that what it's all about? i'm all for discussing relative merits but some of the discussions about our inability to dominate for the next 150 years are a bit tenuuous to say the least.

No - I don't think they do - especially if the lad I sit next to every other week is anything to go by. They do however have more opportunity to whinge, 24/7 and as it's keyboard based, rather than making a single point someone can jump in on, they get to type a total rant at a time should the mood take them.

An internet forum is a good place to whinge.

Some people mind you wouldn't know what moaning was if it hit them in the face.

The relative anonymity of the internet forum helps people to air views before they take said views to their mates a lot of the time.

I would also imagine that the media infatuation with beautiful football has got in the way of playing winning football and more and more people want to see their teams play this way. Sure, if you play well and win then happy days but the win is most important with performance second. Some of the new breed of football fans who have grown up in the Sky and Andy Grey era expect this to be case with central midfielders controlling the ball on the back of their necks and other such b******s.

The level of punditry is also something that should be considered. The likes of Charley Nicholas, Garth Crooks & Trevor Steven give their opinions and a lot of people gobble them up and use them as their own without giving it too much consideration.

In short: you see more Internet fans whinging because you see more fans on the Internet than you do in real life. I wouldn't say there's any correlation between Internet usage and moaning; unless your name is Ant :bleh:

Can't say I agree, growing up in the 'Sky Gen' has nothing to do with any of my views at all.

It's easy to blame the media and their view of the "Beautiful game" and their s*** pundits but it's not just the Sky generation that talk complete s*** though, I had a fifty-something year old fella telling me that Benítez needed to be sacked after the derby 1, because he took Gerrard off and 2, because his rotation policy wouldn't win us anything.

No matter what I said to the contrary, this fella was adamant he was right. Even coming out with the Charlie Nicholas-esque line; "I don't know what he's trying to do"

Because this fella was in a pub, I couldn't put him on ignore so I had to tell him to f*** off 'cause he was doing me head in.

At the end of the day, some people just whinge about everything. Doesn't matter where or when they do it, if they want to whinge, they will whinge. This fella went up to a random bloke in a pub (ie; me), asked if he was a Liverpool fan and proceeded to spout s***e at him, he made wish I was an Evertonian. Some fellas will whinge to their mates down the pub, others will go home and bore the wife with their s***e. Other people use phone ins on TV or radio to get across their unwanted opinion (Ian St John comes to mind here) and some people use the internet.

It isn't just football though, people come to the many interactive parts of the web, to express dissatisfaction, far more readily than they come to enthuse. It does create a distorted view of popular opinion.

People will winge after a game, in the pub, wherever, but it is momentary, as I said in another thread, most don't seem to recognise that on the web, it is permanent, and accessible to the whole world, including journalists, and those involved.

When writing, it’s far easier to complain and criticise than compliment and approve.

This is demonstrated by the posts on any internet forum, the letters page of any newspaper and the column of any newspaper hack. The average topic for any of these publications is a moan.

Therefore, “Yes” internet fans whinge more because it’s easier to be negative than positive when communicating in writing.

Unfortunately the various fan websites tend to attract many of the kind of fans who populate the airwaves on 6-0-6 and You're On Sky Sports. Spend an hour or so on this site in particular - there seems to be more whingers and moaners on here than on all other Liverpool sites put together - and you'll despair at the knee-jerk comments and general inanity. "Rafa's the best coach in the world" swiftly followed by " We'll never win the league with that clown Rafa and his obsession with rotation" blah, blah, blah. Crouch when he first joined us was usually berated for being a useless beanpole who couldn't head the ball to save his life and who was as slow as continental drift, but now that he's on the bench more often than not, he's somehow become our under-utilised Saviour and Benitez is a fool for not picking him. Trust me there are a lot of nutters on here
