Gunga Din Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 that was a plesent surprise. i really hope we can build on this performance. we look brilliant at times, which makes it even more frustrating when you look at how bad we have been in the last 6 weeks or so. you have to wonder how it is we lost to that rabble a fortnight ago. anyway, for me, i'd play that 11 against Fulham. reward the players tonight with another start saturday, because if we play like that with the same tempo, we'll blow Fulham away. like i said, lets hope we can build on it and it puts some much needed confidence and self belief back into the players game
Stevie H Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 yep. we've not been ourselves for six weeks, that was something more like our actual selves. let's hope we can build on it, kick on and be playing with confidence as xabi, agger and torres come back in.
Gunga Din Posted November 6, 2007 Author Posted November 6, 2007 actually, in saying i'd stick with teh same team, i'd put Torres in ahead of Voronin if fit, other that that, as you were
Guest petelfc Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Someone made a great point about the full backs on another thread. We look far more of a threat with Aurelio and Arbeloa pushing forward from the back. Finnan, great player that he is, is far more reticent. We've really missed those two players.
Gunga Din Posted November 6, 2007 Author Posted November 6, 2007 i'd prefer full backs to defend personally, but i see your point. the left hand side with Aurelio and Riise would be in trouble against a decent right winger though, neither of them are good enough defenders, and i see left back still as our weak spot
Cunny Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 bit like the Derby game I thought, started slowly and then each goal gave us confidence.
KD07 Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Aurelio is a solid fullback. He just needs games to get into the groove. After which he will get injured unfortunately.
kenny7 Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 actually, in saying i'd stick with teh same team, i'd put Torres in ahead of Voronin if fit, other that that, as you were If he's not fit I'd think about Babel instead of Voronin, and consider Kewell at Left Mid, again if fit enough.
dorgie Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 If he starts Kuyt on Saturday, that would be a big disappointment in my opinion. Game lad and all that, but he would be my 5th choice striker at this moment in time behind Torres, Crouch, Voronin & Babel (and possible even Yossi too).
Knox_Harrington Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Same side maybe with someone in for Riise. No point lashing Torres in there off the back of his knock.
Cunny Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Same side maybe with someone in for Riise. it was good to see some things don't change, he was as gash as usual
Gunga Din Posted November 6, 2007 Author Posted November 6, 2007 Same side maybe with someone in for Riise. No point lashing Torres in there off the back of his knock.kewell maybe. Riise still looks poor when we win 8. dont quite knowhow he manages it
Nebraska Red Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 could be an ideal game for Kewell to start on the left, with Riise or Babel coming on if he tires. other than that, same 11 as started tonight. it was nice to see Kewell be so comfortable on the ball, and willing to take a man on even from a standing start, his cross for the Babel header was a joy to see.
Stevie H Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 think kewell still needs bench appearances to build up match fitness. he's not ready to start yet.
Knox_Harrington Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 kewell maybe. Riise still looks poor when we win 8. dont quite knowhow he manages itHis commitment to not being able to trap, pass nor make intelligent decisions is second to none. Good strike for the third, mind. f*** it. Even he can have some love. Unlucky Johnny lad not to blam one from 40 yards. 8-0. Love it.
Guest Portly Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I hope the penny will drop with Rafa that Voronin and Kuyt are extremely unproductive played together or on their own up front, but as partners to Crouch or Torres they can be excellent. Horses for courses. Voronin had a great game against Besiktas.
Stevie H Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 don't really want to criticise anyone after that, but as with chelsea and derby, riise looks out of his depth when we play good, fast football.

Allowed himself to be a fulcrum and did it very well indeed.
meepins Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 (edited) kewell maybe. Riise still looks poor when we win 8. dont quite knowhow he manages itIn fairness to Riise he was putting in a performance that was far beyond what he had been doing for a long time. He was getting about, putting in challenges and pushing forward .Don't forget his quick throw in led to a goal. His lack of quality unfortunately, soon overshadowed the good work he had done. If he is staying hopefully his first half performance will be the new standard. Edited November 6, 2007 by lfc-dub
Knox_Harrington Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Jonny Rockets had a decent gameAh, f*** off with your Jonny Rockets. Were you in the Kop?
dorgie Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Good strike for the third, mind. f*** it. Even he can have some love. Unlucky Johnny lad not to blam one from 40 yards. 8-0. Love it. And for conning the linesman into giving us the throw in that lead to (was it the 2nd goal ? ) and then proceeding to take the throw in 10 yards ahead of where it should have been Would love to see that happen right in front of Ferguson next month.
Guest Portly Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 don't really want to criticise anyone after that, but as with chelsea and derby, riise looks out of his depth when we play good, fast football. Riise's form this season has been consistently diabolical. I wonder if he wants out.
Guest petelfc Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Riise was awful. We could have had a few more had he not decided to shoot from 50 yards every time the ball came near him. Harry should be fine for Saturday. Give him 60 minutes and take him off if he's laggng. I really want to see us get Fulham on the back foot from the start.
sutty Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Ah, f*** off with your Jonny Rockets. Were you in the Kop? I'm missing for a short while post house move Seriously, Jonny Rockets went out maiming people. That's why he was decent
