Good Torres interview

Our Spanish players and staff seem far more comfortable talking to Spanish journalists.

It's as if they expect everything they say to be purposely twisted in England so they remain a bit coy unless talking to club journalists and the Echo.

They're probably right too.

maybe its because they don't speak english, and our translators to an extent make it up as they go along.

seriously, watch the torres signing conference and compare what he actually says to the translators generic footballer speak version.

I assume thats why all the interviews with non english speaking players on liverpoolfc.tv sound like they're the same person talking too. its not their personality.

I seen that in the Football Echo one Saturday about how someone was mingling and playing with his idols for every answer.

Think it wa Lucas. Rafa had to step in and translate for him.

yeah, the translator really needs to get his s*** together. it was funny watching the torres one, every time the translator spoke, my girlfriend would overhear and say "....he didn't say that". :D

they are probably more comfortable talking about football, something they don't get to talk about much with the tabloid journos here ;) Rafa especially, he must get hacked off being asked about rotation and Steven Gerrard and nothing else. Cos that's pretty much all he gets asked about, tedious in the extreme.

You'd think he'd be sacked by now seeing Rafa is sitting there knowing exactly what Torres is saying.

I bet Torres didn't know what was going on, the translator just making up his own answers.

Is it a strong breakfast like the English like?

- Well, we have possibilities. Whatever you want, you can choose to eat a lot or not.

Here’s a snippet of how this interview went.

Question: What does Lucas know about English football?

Answer (translated): He says it will take time to adapt and mingle with his new team-mates.

Question: Did Lucas have a particular footballing hero when he was a youngster?

Answer (translated): He’s really looking forward to mingling with the team, but it will take time.

(At this point, yet again, Benitez came to the rescue, informing reporters of the influence of Lucas’ uncle, Leivinho, who once played for Atletico Madrid, on the youngster’s career.)

Question: Lucas, can you tell us about what your uncle said when you asked him about Liverpool?

Answer (translated): All I can say is it will take time in England, but when he adapts and mingles he’s sure he can have some success.

Question: You were talking to Steven Gerrard at the match on Tuesday, what advice has he given you?

Answer (translated): We were mingling.

Excellent...

And what are the training sessions like? I know Rafa Benitez is a Spanish manager but he’s a very peculiar person. How is it different to a training session in Spain?

superb stuff. carra and gerrard are going to go down in legend at this club by the way. every player namechecks them, top pros.

defo, really pleased to see them being so welcoming of new players, as well as being good examples on the training ground
