Woodsyla Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 (edited) This is not about Chiellini or Baines, or Insua being promoted or any other LB this is a straight question Who would you prefer as first choice LB this season given a straight choice between these two players ? Edited August 5, 2007 by Woodsyla
Benitez Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 JAR, which says a lot about my opinions on Heinze as a player these days Riise infuriates me more with what he does or dosen't do when going forward - i.e. his inability to use his right foot meaning that he spends half the game getting in a tangle and hoofing the ball any which way, and his nasty habit of blasting shots on goal from all angles rather than pass or play somone better positioned in. And would Heinze improve enough on that? I don't think he would, he's too lumbering and slow. Defensively both have their weaknesses, so I'd rather stick with what we know as first choice, till a real top quality left back is brought in, or Insua proves to be a good replacment - dunno if he will, but yer never know.
Cobs Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 how many games has Aurelio started for us at LB ? 10 yet, is it?
Sion Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 The fact we are putting so much hope on Aurelio goes to show how poor our LB options are. He played LB about 10 times last season if that, the rest of the time playing LM. They only change I see if we get Heinze is we'll have two average LB's in Riise and Heinze, and one who we can't judge properly as he's hardly played because of Injury.
Stevie H Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 how many games has Aurelio started for us at LB ? 10 yet, is it?dunno. about half a dozen?
Cobs Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 dunno. about half a dozen? not enough for him to be slagged off yet anyway
John am Rhein Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I thought Riise was finally doing a decent job at LB towards the end of last season - the semi final second leg vs. Chelsea being a good example. But nevertheless I think he's a poor option. Heinze, if fit (a big if) is a better LB although perhaps not a better player generally. Ideally I'd like to see someone else at LB - neither Riise nor Heinze - and I'm not convinced by Aurelio either.
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I'd prefer Heinze at LB personally. I really hope Insua can put himself in the picture this season, whenever I see him he looks comfortable.
jon_hall Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Silly poll if you only have a choice of Riise and a player we don't even have yet.

No, we will have one shocking LB (Riise) and one outstanding LB who we can't judge properly as he's hardly played because of Injury (Heinze).
Woodsyla Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 Silly poll if you only have a choice of Riise and a player we don't even have yet. Why, he's the realistic competition. The most likely scenario is that one of those two will start as first choice LB for Liverpool this season so it's a reasonable question.

Is he really THAT good though? (I agree he's better than Riise) And isn't there a serious chance that he'll NEVER be the player he was due to injury?
Stevie H Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 not enough for him to be slagged off yet anywayneeds at least a dozen before he can be the new scapegoat.

(I agree he's better than Riise) And isn't there a serious chance that he'll NEVER be the player he was due to injury? Yes, in his first season he was the widely acknowledged as the best left back in the league and I believe Utd fans voted him player of the season. He is also a nasty dirty b*****d something we don't have enough of IMO. Also Yes but I trust Rafa and I presume he has had scouts watching Heinze since he came back from injury and he is trying to buy him because he believe that he will become the player he was before injury.

I'd rather he gave Insua a hell of a lot more games over the coming season than to have a player who hasn't been fully git for a while or a player who to me isn't a left back.

That's a valid point. As we are after Heinze though does it not mean that Rafa thinks Insua is not quite ready ? I jsut wanted a straight either/or because, like you it seems, I don't rate Riise as a LB so wanted to see how many people would actually prefer Heinze to come in. Roughly 50/50 so far.

I haven't voted yet Might be so he can ease him in with what could be (if fit) quality backup / starter in Heinze, and obviously he can cover centre back as well.
Bo Benn Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 May I bring up a certain Mr. Arbeloa? I know LB is not favored position and Riise might be a better player going forward. But don't think I have ever seen him play a bad game for us during his so far short stay at the club.

Stevie H Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 when united signed heinze from PSG he was a centre-back. it's always been arguably his best position.
