All these next big thing youngsters arriving with each passing day. Could someone remind me if there is a change in the UEFA ruling on squads coming up where you need a certain percentage to be "home grown". Are we also trying to ensure the few that do come through cover us on this in future years ? If so, I think this also re-iterates certain views on our recent youth players.........

Dont think there's a change in the rule. If I recall from playing Football Manager 2007, it's 4 players of your own nationality playing and 6 or so from your own academy/youth side.

Is there any precedent for having this many youngsters come into the team in just one season?

St. Andrew's Under 14s did it last season to no-one's great surprise.

Anyone think that the likes of Leto, Idrizaj, El Zhar and Lindfield can make the step up this year? Although even if they could I don't see any room in the squad for them.....

From 2008, 8 of the squad for the UEFA competitions must be "home grown" players. Four of the eight must come through the club's own academy.

So it doesn't matter if they're foreign born players who graduated from the club's academy?

Besian Idrizaj, Krisztian Nemeth and Dani Pacheco were on the scoresheet as Liverpool Reserves beat Chester City 3-1 in a friendly game at the Academy today. The reds included new signings Sebastian Leto, Nicolay Mihaylov and Andras Simon in their starting line up, with fellow new boys Pacheco and Nemeth both appearing as second half substitutes. Unflushable turd Anthony Le Tallec was also included.

Chester – for whom Liverpool youngster Jimmy Ryan appeared as a triallist – went in front in the first half, before last weekends hat-trick hero Idrizaj levelled the scores after having missed a penalty earlier. Nemeth put the reds in front after the break, before the lively Pacheco wrapped things up late on.

Jay Spearing, Craig Lindfield and Ray Putterill were missing from the squad as they have been called up to the first team for tomorrow’s friendly at Crewe.

Starting line up: Mihaylov; Darby, Hobbs, Huth, Threlfall; Flynn, Idrizaj, Le Tallec, Leto; Simon, Brouwer:

So how long do they have to spend at the academy to be considered academy players? If send, for example, Leto there for a month does he count?

Lindfield has a real chance I reckon. Perhaps not this year but soon.

It is interesting to see which homegrown talent, within the Big 4, has come through recently ? It looks like you need to be a world class player to come through these days - I would suggest the next player to be homegrown and make it through (Gerrard, Owen, Fowler) will be a "world class player" with such natural talent they would have made it anywhere - (Pure luck of location of world class natural skill than anything else) - Some of our lads may well play in the Prem but not necessarily with us.......

I can only see most of our kids getting a run out in the Carling Cup and maybe some early rounds of the FA Cup. Other than a serious injury crisis or an amazing performance in some of those cup games I can't see it happening this year.

One can hope though...................
