Liverpool winger loaned to Saints

Southampton have secured the services of 19-year-old Liverpool winger Adam Hammill on a season-long loan.

Saints beat off strong competition from Scottish champions Celtic to sign the England Under 19 international, who can operate on either flank.

 

Manager George Burley said: "He is a young player who did very well on loan at Dunfermline last season.

 

"He is a quick player who likes to take people on. He has bags of potential and I am very pleased to have got him."

saints badly need defenders, not attackers. they've lost bale and now baird this summer.

 

think hammill will do well there though, burley's not afraid to pick youngsters.

Good loan move for Hammill, Southampton have done well with young players over the last few years and should be one of the stronger sides in the division.

 

I'm glad we haven't sold him outright as was being suggested, I still think he's got a lot of potential...

shame he is not in a premiership side...

but a good club otherwise to go to and better than another year with the jocks

roffa may monitor him for first team squad role next year...

I doubt you'd be able to offer him enough games next season even if he played out of his skin in the friendlies. Far better for him to get experience at Southampton. If he shines there then you'd have a case to bring him into the squad.

Rafa's building a very deep squad. I think the fact that he's not been given more pre-season matches is because Rafa wants us to come out of the gate flying this season and so wants everybody to be ready. Thus, some of the youngsters won't figure in these friendlies and have been sent out on loan.
