The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has confirmed that Lucas Leiva has been forced to withdraw from the Under-20 World Cup in Canada ahead of Brazil's opening game against Poland on Saturday.

The soon-to-be Liverpool midfielder has suffered an injury that will rule him out of the entire tournament.

 

Leiva was captain of the Brazil side and his loss will be a big blow to their hopes of landing the world title.

 

The highly-rated 20-year old will join the Reds from Gremio in time for the start of the 2007/08 season.
