Paying over inflated prices for players

Recommended Posts

It has been mentioned on this forum many times that United paid way too much for Ronaldo. Come to think about it the same has been said about Rio, Rooney and Carrick. ( I have been a big fan of Rio and Carrick since their West Ham days) In light of how United have played this season and the possibility of some serious silverware, do you still think this is the case? Besides the odd blunder Rio has been immense alongside Vidic. Carrick works very hard and moves around offering an outlet for defenders and attackers alike. He makes passing look very simple and although mostly short passes he keeps play moving. Lately we have seen a lot more ranging passes that create goals. He also inspires Scholes to go forward more.

Rooney has had a poor season by his standards but still manages to score and create a lot of goals and in a period where we have a lot of injuries and 2 games a week, the lad would willingly play his heart out every day if he could.

Ronaldo? Well it seems we paid too much for him, but how much is he worth now?

Unlike Chelsea who paid way too much for SWP, Chevvy and Robben (Injury prone and not there when they really need him) to mention a few, I think Fergie knew who he wanted and paid what he did because he knew these would be the nucleus of his last great team. Don?t get me wrong, he has bought some s*** over the last 4 years and they have all gone now, but overall I think he knew what he was doing.

jeez - what a troll

you paid too much for Ronaldo cos he was offered to us previously for a fraction of the price

has he subsequently been proven to be worth what you paid for him ? of course he has.

What Chelsea pay for players is totally irrelevant. Mourinho/Ranieri's outlay since Abramovich came to Chelsea is probably a fraction of what he pays in tax/to his accountants to avoid tax. They end up paying a premium on transfer cos everyone knows they can afford it.

Carrick is over-priced at £18M when you can get solid enough players to do what he does for half the money

Rooney was always going to be worth top dollar and Ferdinand the odd mental slip aside, is a fine defender.

Fact is, if you can afford the player you want and are prepared to pay the money then that's all that really matters
