JimmyF Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 1- We need to buy a top class striker in the worst possible way this summer and 2- We really miiss little Luis especially on European nights like these, the little fella can be infuriating but he's a very good finisher and he's always good for a vital goal. A performance like that deserved atleast a 3-1 scoreline in our favour, barring the last few moments we made Barca look second best all night
Guest flaps Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I agree on the first point. However i'd prefer garcia out of the team than in it. I thought the performance was dreadful, particularly in the second half. Our ball retention is awful. We basically brought barca into the game.
surf Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Our performance was fantastic and Garcia is excellent, especially for nights like these. But apart from that you made some good points.

I think it's obvious that we need to retain possession more effectively. I'd put signing at least one quality attacking midfielder above a striker, personally speaking. Maybe if we held onto the ball a bit more often the likes of Kuyt and Bellamy might get more chances to score? But we'll probably be able to sign a couple of top midfielders and a world class striker - with our Transfer Warchest
stoger Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Point 1.. Manc scum are top of the league.. and their world class striker is ??????? Also, Barca. have world class striker in oto'o ..yes?? and they are not in the champions league !!! Hmmmm !!!
alias75 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Its hard to criticise today because we did hit the bar a few times which is hardly bad finishing and the keeper made a couple of good saves. Against Utd the same really we didnt really miss that many clear cut chances maybe Bellamy's when he was put through by Kuyt and his first touch was bad. My main problem against Utd was more to do with the position of our strikers we dominated the game and got into numerous good crossing positions but often there'd be 1 or sometimes 0 players in the danger area and thats what we need. We need a top striker that will be in those positions to finish chances and wide midfielders that will provide extra bodies in the box.
Guest flaps Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Our performance was fantastic we got the right result which is all you can say about it. To describe hoofing the ball aimlessly and failing to hold possession for more then a couple of passes is not fantastic.

stoger Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Oh come on.. Liverpool are in the unbelievable and enviable position of TOP 8 in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE..FFS !!! Eto'o is world class striker ... are Barca in top 8 champs league ?? NO.. Who knocked them out????..FFS. Manc scum top of the league admitedly.. but WHO is their top class striker???? Get BEHIND the team..enjoy the moment.. blue noses will never, ever experience this or even close...

Guest flaps Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Our performance was fantastic yes all that hoofing and appalling ball retention made for a fine performance. I think the phrase your looking for is the end justified the means.

Guest prophet Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 We need to address our goal geetttin real fast.....2 games no goals!
Guz Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 We had more of the ball against United but were far less effective. Was the opposite today and the way we pressed and effectivley choked barcelona in the first half was class. First 45 was excellent, 2nd half less so but we did enough.
berdoing Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Not sure what game you saw, but spin it around. If Barcelona were Liverpool, we'd be absolutely hammering ourselves. Liverpool easily deserved to win over the two legs and, the first 15 minutes of the first leg apart, were rarely troubled over any lengthy period of time.

Nebraska Red Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 our performance over the 2 legs was world class and we thoroughly deserved to go through. no way did anybody realistically expect us to only concede 2 goals to Barcelona over 2 legs. we were up against quality opposition tonight and they threw their best 11 at us and failed to progress. however, we really do need a first class finisher, a player who can hold the ball up for us to allow others to get forward and a winger with pace and skill. that defence tonight was amazing, given the opposition, and to allow them only 7 shots is great. just checked the possession percentages, we had only 28.4% compared to 71.6%, but we had a 60% to 40% territorial advantage.

Disintegrating rotten scrotums (b******s wasn't a strong enough word, although we did t*** it back to them too much in the 2nd half, courtesy of them stepping it up and playing to their ability for once in this tie)
fyds Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 yes all that hoofing and appalling ball retention made for a fine performance. I think the phrase your looking for is the end justified the means.Excuse me, but Carra and Agger are the ones with flat heads tonight because of all the 'hoofing' Barca did - our attack plan was to hit them fast and hard and if it wasn't for a few good saves, Puyol's shin and the woodwork we would have been 4 up by half time! What game where you watching? How many saves did Pepe have to make? How many did Valdes have to make? How many times did Pepe fritter away a few seconds slowly collecting the ball or running it out from yet another Xavi/Puyol/ Olegeur hoof?

Dfensively magnificent! However dont think Rafas one for a 1st class finisher. Player who hols yes. Therefore we need class midfldrs who can score and contribute to the goals tally. Momo, Pennat, Xabi do not contribute enough. Alves will improve the situation.
San Diego Red Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 You may not have realised that Barca are quite a good side. Only a little good.
