read that this morning too and was wondering why no one on this forum reported it. 15 does sound quite alot though, I was under the impression that only a handful were involved. And I find it difficult to believe just one incident like this is enough to make Rafa sell Bellamy.

i'm not saying Rafa will sell Bellamy, but i do wonder how many other incidents might have been kept out of the public domain.

yeah I agree, who knows what goes on behind closed doors? if it happens it would be a pity, i was starting to like him (as a player) and can see him doing well for some years.

I'm sure Rafa had a word with him on becoming a Liverpool player and this would have been a big let down. Rafa strikes me as a very proud man and I can't imagine him letting this just pass.

didn't bellamy say that when gollum wanted him at everton, moyes warned him right away he wouldn't take any nonsense? whereas Rafa took him on trust and talked only about what kind of role he envisaged for him at Anfield?

Seems to me it would be easier for the club to enforce a no-alcohol rule when representing the club on any type of training trip. FFS these lads could quite easily have had an early night and gone on the piss the next day in Liverpool when they got home. Sounds like they acted like schoolboys who couldn't control themselves while the headmaster was away.

Ah, back to the threads of sanctimony ... of course, none of us would ever want to have a laugh when we were away with twenty other blokes our age, we'd be all upright and mature and just sit in our hotel rooms watching interesting programs on the development of alluvial plains and their impact on the production of cheese dips ...

None of us:

1. play for Liverpool Football Club

2. Have a manager like Rafa who gives us the opportunity to act like a grown-up(not a schoolkid)

3. Will be playing against the European Champions.

Rafa let the lads go out an enjoy themselves, unfortunately some of them couldn't control themselves.

I go along with Jerzy and the hotel manager who was interviewed on Radio 5 - not much happened and what's being reported bears little resemblance to the facts.

When I'm away with work at conferences, balls, away days, nights out or whatever, with a workforce that is similar in age to most foootball squads, I've got to follow a code of conduct regarding alcohol consumption and general behaviour. I've got no problem with that, it's about keeping mine and the firm's nose clean.

Exactly.

What a fine upstanding pillar of the corporate community you must be. Thank heavens there are still people of the same moral fibre as your good self. Hear Hear!

Personally however I like to be two sheets to the wind as quickly as possible and be damned with the consequences.

At such work events I tend towards running down the hotel corridor at 3am with my pants on my head.

Win together,

lose together,

drink together,

get in the s*** together,

face the flack together.

Thats how I would manage a squad of twenty year old footballers aswell ;)

Quotes from Rafa

"I am not going to tell you what happened. The problem is not as big as reported in the Press, so there really haven't been many players fined - not nearly as many as has been reported. After the problem, some were fined and they have been really good."

"What happened (in Portugal) was that we were training really well. The atmosphere is really good and we are ready. They also understand how important this game is.

"The reaction of the players was the day after. They apologised and have now said they are ready. The reaction was great."

"It was a shame it had to happen but it doesn't matter now. It is over, as I have said. We have put it behind us and are concentrating on the game."

"Those kind of things don't make any difference on the pitch."

The point isn't that they were wrong to break curfew, the point is that it's been done to death now, some people are still banging on about it here, "15" players were never, ever, all going to be fined for being out less than an hour more than they should and giving any type of credence to such claims is ridiculous, from everything that has come out since it's clear that the whole event was grossly exaggerated to paint Liverpool players in a bad light, however the stories were nevertheless greedily consumed by those "fans" with particular pet peeves (like a "pennant" for example) and, finally, as it is quite obvious Rafa himself has put the matter behind him, can we f***ing move on ..?

You're point is spot on, that s*** happens, you deal with it and move on, but that's not what you said or what I responded to.
