BIG RON DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL

Ron Atkinson has been named Director Of Football at Kettering Town this morning.

Chairman Imraan Ladak has issued the following statement:

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Ron Atkinson back to Kettering Town Football Club.

With our status, as a non league club, many supporters will not be aware of some of the history and milestones at Kettering.

We were the first club to introduce shirt sponsorship, are the leading scorers in the history of the FA Cup and Rockingham Road is where Ron Atkinson began his illustrious and highly successful managerial career.

Appointed player manager in 1971, Ron guided the club to back to back championships before moving on to Cambridge and eventually manage Manchester United.

Having spoken to Ron over recent months, it was clear he still held a deep rooted affection for Kettering and would love to come back and help the club in any way he could.

I am very pleased to confirm his appointment as Director of Football for the remainder of this season. With Ron’s knowledge, experience and achievements, he will certainly be involved in and responsible for all aspects of the football club.

Whilst we are obviously aware that this appointment will increase awareness and the profile of Kettering Town, our immediate priority is promotion to the Conference National and I am confident that this appointment will greatly help us to enhance our prospects.

The "leading scorers in the history of the FA Cup" claim I find a little difficult to believe but I'm sure they must be right about it.

"Kettering Town have scored the most goals in FA Cup history, having scored 817 goals between 1888 and 2006. (up to 12 November 2006) with Ollie Burgess scoring the 800th goal against St Albans City on 11 October 2005 when scoring a hatrick"
