... was seeing Robbie Fowler be absolutely ineffective for the whole game apart from his nicely taken goal.

he was out paced by almost every arsenal player, he tried flicks that never came off and he looked like a player that was way past his best.

I felt sorry for him, he deserved better and he deserved a little more help from the other Red shirts.

Was this the last time he will start a game for Liverpool? If it was, it was a shame.

He's slow as hell, he is never going to outrun a defender these days. His shooting is still clinical I feel and if gets good chances I'm sure he will put them away. But it was tough tonight, for the whole team not just Robbie.

We've been saying that for months now. he looked like a semblance of a player at this level when he had to earn a contract last season. Now he looks like a retired ex-footballer.

Retire robbie, do us all a favour, you don't need a salary and you'd give Rafa the imperative to go out and sign a striker who might make a difference.

how long has it been since he started a match for us? i wasn't in the least surprised he wasn't up to the pace of arsenal's defence.

you knew it, I knew it and 40,000 plus at the game knew it.

unfortuneately, 1 man did not know it, or chose to ignore it.

Saddest sight tonight.

He reminded me of the old pro who'd have a fag and a pint at half time...

Worse, some of the tumbles he took looked like they really hurt him....

Let's see in his last few starts

Reading LC - scored

Gala - scored twice

Arsenal - scored

He certainly isn't a starter but IMO he should get more chances off the bench than he does. He would still get 10 a season.

There's none so blind as those that won't see.

He's finished.

we can only bring him off the bench in games we are winning and winning well. is that a good thing? wouldn't we be better served by having a young striker in his place who can gain some experience?

for me, his time has gone and he is taking a place in the squad that he no longer deserves. like somebody else said, he shud retire gracefully and let the club get another striker that can do a better job.

Cut me in half and I've got Robbie Folwer running through me but if you were at the match you would understand what we're saying. It was embarassing to watch and, for the first time, I felt he was embarassed also...the game passed him by....

Robbie still has a roll to play at the club. In a strong side with decent half chances he'll score goals that the others would miss.

However, in a disjointed side playing against 20 year olds he's going to be chasing misplaced passes and trying to beat sprinters to the ball. no going to happen.

as for the comments about, looking like an ex pro who's collecting a cheque for nothing. I feel that is out of order.

I have to agree and for those who are saying he looked off the pace it's not suprising really considering the last game he started was Galatasary which was over 1 month ago!!

Robbie has played 12 games this season and scored 5 goals with most of them off the bench. Kuyt has scored 8 in 27 games. Now I'm not saying Kuyt doesn't work hard for the team etc... but he will never have the natural finishing talent of Robbie.

I'm not saying either that Robbie should start ahead of Kuyt but he should at least be included in the 16 for home games, don't forget his record at the end of last season when he actually got a run in the side!!!

Off the OS (this season):

GOALS SCORED PER GAME

Robbie Fowler .42

Peter Crouch .36

Dirk Kuyt .30

Steven Gerrard MBE .23

Craig Bellamy .23

The thing is a young, quick striker who is really on-form (who I rate) scored how many goals tonight and made almunia make how many saves? as opposed to a passed it, fat, overweight yada yada yada striker who scored!!!

At the end of the day a strikers job is to score goals and that's one thing that Robbie will always do regardless of age etc....

A striker's job is to help their team win.

Kuyt, Crouch and Bellamy are in a different class to Robbie.

Last season, as the posters are alluding to, he scored goals but also contributed significantly to team play with movement and passing. That has become a thing of the past.

Fowler got a knock early on and it seemed to affect him for the rest of the game. He would probably have been subbed if it hadn't been for the injury of speedy. Later I think he was kept on because we had to make other substitutions.

Fowler will score goals given chances. Sadly I don't think he's able to get in the right positions too often nowadays. I'd rather have Pongolle as fourth choice.

It's been blindingly obvious all season. Whenever he's played he looks absolutely knackered. I could never understand how people seemed to be oblivious to it. Of course you have to call him God and say he's the most natural finisher in the history of football otherwise the forum Thought Police are on your case, but he's looked just terrible. Last night must have finally confirmed it for anyone who was in denial before.

Dunno, no doubt it will be Robbie's last season with us, and he might not have the pace needed for today's game but I still thought Robbie contributed more to the game last night than Bellamy.......

next season we ll extended his contract up until he s reaching 40s & then we going to sell pongolle for 3 quids. that frency are just pure slow s****.

I watched a carling cup game between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield last night, what game were you watching?

Robbie was past his best a few years ago. Let alone now.

He can still nab the odd goal here and there because he'll always have his instincts but his legs can't take him where his head wants him to be anymore.

nearly funny mate, well done.

Apart from getting caught offside 4 times and doing a bit of moaning at the officials , I can't remember Bellamy doing anything. (Course if his name had been Cisse he would have been crucified by now).

Robbie on the other hand did score and looked like he was willing to chase a lost cause. I'm not saying Robbie had one of his best games for us, but the service to both of them could have been better.

The team didn't perform last night, not one individual, the team. Whether that was due to the original line up, the tactics, the positions some were expected to play, the quality of the opposition is up for debate.

Got to agree about Bellamy not doing all that great. He did no more than Fowler in the end, and at least Robbie got a goal. The team perforamnce was hopeless and had they created decent chances for the forwards Robbie might have got more and Bellamy could've been on the score sheet too. It's not a game to blame the forwards in my opinion.

Agree, for the minutes he's played, I'd rather have Pongo or another youngster than RF. Shame but he looks slower this season than last and his flicks etc come off less often than Luis garcias. He hasn't the game to be Teddy Sheringham, unfortunately
