I was thinking of him or maybe Kevin Nolan. Both eligible for Champions League but may be a bit on the expensive side for squad players.

Nolan is a red as well but I think Barton is a bluenose.

I'd be happy with that, I really rate him and he has a 5.5m release clause so they cant even ask for big money. Him and Neill for about 7m or so would be good. That'd be basically the whole squad done then imo and summer could be spent on players who have the quality to walk straight into the team, although it never works out that way really.

Where did you hear about the release clause ? £5.5m would be great business if true.

I'm not sure Barton would be fourth choice, he's a very good player and we'd have four midfielders of real quality.

What Barton's got on his side is that I'd fancy him to be able to play with any of Gerrard, Alonso or Sissoko. Don't think the same about Nolan. He's more attacking anyway and while a hard-worker he currently has his water carried by the very experienced Speed and Campo. Reo-Coker has to be considered as well but he could be a bit pricey.

Not really that keen on him, not really sure what he does exactly bar get a few goals here and there. I also havent seen him playing in a 4 4 2 in recent years either.

Seems good value at that price. The only question is could the club survive Bellamy, Pennant and Barton at the same time

Dont forget our Lucas aswell, although to be fair I havent heard about any off the pitch trouble with him, he's just an evil c*** on it.

To be honest I reckon we lack a nasty player or two on the pitch and have done for a long time. Barton and Neill would be just the ticket.
