agree with most of that, but I don't think gerrard and carra are immune from criticism when they play so badly.

Agree with this.

Gerrard and Carragher are fantastic players, but when they have a poor games it sticks out like a sore thumb as it usually results in us playing poorly due to them being so influential when they play well... They shouldn't be exempt from criticism just because they have been great servants... just like in my job, I might get a bonus one month but if I f*** up the next then I deserve criticism. If I were JAR I would have been fuming at Gerrard for that spat on the pitch after the Gallas goal... showed lack of professionalism in my opinion... as frustrated as Gerrard was he seemed to be covering for his mistakes rather than doing his best to grab the team by the scruff of their necks and get them going again, albeit with 10 minutes left.

I really wish we rested ours this week though, I hate the fact that we always seem willing to let the boys play in stupid friendlies... not sure how much an influence Rafa has over that, but from reading Stevies book playing for England means everything to him, can't see much getting in the way of him doing so.

There is probably no reason to panic, but there is cause for concern.

What we have seen in all our away games is a perilously slow approach to the games, an inability to mount many serious attacks and an unwillingness to go at the opposition. As a team we seem to have no pace, no life and we lack the will power to impose ourselves on a game in any part of the pitch.

I find the berating of Carragher a bit much as he is covering for an aging Sami Hyppia whose games should be being limited now as we have an ideal back up in Daniel Agger.

Gerrard is another matter. so many times in games against the big clubs he goes AWOL and seems unwilling to get involved at the level we know he is capable of. His play yesterday was lethargic at times and he did himself no favors being seen having a pop at Riise after the Gallas goal.

Kev mentions the new signings and says they have improved the squad. Have they? With the clear exception of Kuyt , who will be a star for many years, the rest have been duds so far. For me, Pennant is the biggest disapppointment. Last season he was running at players and putting in crosses, we have yet to see too much of that from him. Gonzalez looked way out of his depth yesterday and Bellamy has yet to add much of anything.

We have a player like Crouch who should be able to win most balls in the air, yesterday, the only Liverpool player getting the ball to his head was Reina. If we are not going to get him the ball in the box, what's the point of him starting a game.?

I forced myself to watch the game again last night, on my own to avoid another argument with my wife, and we looked worse than we did watching it live. You miss things watching a game live that you spot in a replay, our passing was horrible, our movement off the ball was non existent and our football savvy seemed to have just gone.

Having said all that, Arsenal were good , but not great. They were gifted 3 goals due to poor defending and stupid mistakes. The commentator over here went on about total football from Arsenal. Well it's easy to look like a decent team when your opposition is looking clueless.

At the start of the season, the squad had improved. It's when the season started it went downhill :(

what concerns me is that, apart form Kuyt and Gonzalez, our new signings were not the first choice of the manager.

the players that he/we really wanted were out of our price range or unavailable and we seem to have settled for the next best option.

If we have designs on winning the league we have to aim to do better than what we did last season. Just because we lost at ManUre, Arsenal, Chelsea and Bolton last season doesn't mean it's in any way acceptable to do so again this season. We need to improve on those results but instead they have gotten worse (we were barely beaten by manUre and Arsenal last season, this time round they beat us easily...and we never got t****** by the blues**** last time either). Things have gotten worse, which is both baffling and worrying in equal measure.

I hope Rafa has not done a Houllier and bought players who turn out to be his undoing. The reinforcements Rafa has brought in this season have not yet had the desired effect.

But you can't criticise any player who is local and they came through the ranks.

-" Gerrard's been poor for most of the season "

- " Yeah but remember all those times he played well ? He's allowed some poor games "

So far, this is Carra's worst season for yonks. Gerrard's slump of a few seasons ago was slightly lower than what he's going through now.

I suppose it's a fair point that we've got the hardest away matches out of the way first, and I do believe the extraordinary amount of non 3pm ko's have had some negative impact, but I have absolutely zero reason to be confident about winning at Boro'.

I just hope I'm wrong and we go unbeaten for the remainder of the season.
