"Get back out there - you're Pele." (To a Liverpool player who had taken a head knock and complained he couldn't remember who he was.)

Now that is a CLASSIC

indeed ...pity it was John Lambie who said it.

He died 25 years ago this friday, I was born 21 years ago this friday. Two things always bothered me about that. The second one is that I only ever got to read about him or watch video of him, never saw him in person, never saw his team live.

Good programme that.

The clip from This is your Life was sound. I'm sure I remember watching this although it was broadcast when I was only about 3, from what they said. Must have been repeated when he died though.

It's funny how that quote gets bandied about. I've heard it attributed to Clough, Busby, Paisley, and now Shanks.

Apart from that it was a good piece though and the other quotes always make me smile. I would have loved to have been a fan in the days he was manager, but I was one and couldn't really remember, although I still piss myself as regularly as I did back then.

Bob Paisley took over as manager and went on to enjoy far greater success than Shankly in terms of trophies, but Paisley himself never ceased to acknowledge the debt he and Liverpool owed to Shankly. Sports firm Adidas wanted to present Shankly with a Golden Boot in recognition of what he'd achieved. Paisley took the call and said, 'They want to know what shoe size you take'. Shankly shouted back, "If it's a gold boot, I'm a 28."

That made me laugh.
