Ahead of our trip to Cardiff, Blindjak destroys a legendary belief and justifiably so.

In football there are many myths that the press and many fans seem to just accept regardless of all evidence to the contrary. You know the kind of myths I mean. English players are too honest to dive and feign injury. Arsenal are a great English team. Utd have a conveyor belt of youth talent and excellent academy.

But the one that gets me, because it is so easy to see that it`s clearly myth, is how great Liverpool fans are at creating atmosphere in Anfield.

Over the years I`ve been to Anfield a dozen or so times and from repeated personal experience I can tell you that they do a great rendition of You`ll Never Walk Alone prior to kick off and sing the odd song for about 5 mins. After that if they haven`t already scored, the atomsphere seriously wanes and doesn`t pick up again until they take the lead. They are the original Sing When You`re Winning Team.

Now they are not as bad as the mob from the Highbury Library or the 60,000 Muppets at the Salford Buccaneers Devil Bowl, but neither of these two try to claim that they create a cauldron of atmosphere and have those 'magical European nights`. (at which point I should acknowledge that during the semi against us a couple years back it was something special but it was a one off).

A great European night like Wednesday night?? as their game was competitive I occasionally flicked to it when there was a lull in the Celtic friendly. So, a vitally important CL qualifier in front of 40k fans, it should have been rocking right? Wrong. It was so quiet that I could hear the players shouting to each other, always a sign that the atmosphere is deader than Tottenham`s title chances.

In contrast there were barely more than 20k at the Bridge to witness an overpriced meaningless friendly and while it was also not rocking there was a buzz and enough people trying to get things going that you couldn`t hear the players once.

So let`s bust the myth. While the 'Pool fans are a long way from rubbish on the atmosphere front, they are not as special as they or the press would have us believe.

"a one off".......LMAO at that

History began in 2004/05 for them and our 40 years of European nights is completely lost on them. Massive European nights at Anfield against Inter Milan, Bruges, St. Etienne, Bayern Munich, Auxerre, Olympiakos to name but a few.......perhaps they were just figments of our imagination.

Just like the ManU fans that crawled out from under their stones in the early 90's, the Chav fans have no sense of what went before......which might be acceptable if they just got their facts right when trying to have a go at other clubs.

That's what I thought, although I think it's an urban myth that the players now subscribe to - I'm sure I read some interview with Garcia or Xabi saying that they heard YNWA either in the dressing room or as they were leaving it and that it lifted them, which contradicts what other players have said before...

depends where the mics are for TV doesnt it? How can you judge atmosphere from TV????? Silly Chavs

He's not that far off the mark but there's no way he would know about all our European nights and their respective atmospheres. Anfield can be bloody quiet after the first 10 minutes and warms up again if we score.

The atmosphere is uaually s**** at Anfield. A couple of lads we're getting laughed at in the Kop the other night for trying to get the "Rafa in Istanbul" chant going. f***ing ridiculous.

The guy is talking s*** though because at the Chelsea CL game last season it was rocking again (although obviously not apatch on 2005 :D) and until the home game went 3-1 it was decent too 3 days later.

It was Garcia, he was quoted on the official site here (#124).

Every fan thinks that their ground is buzzing, because they are buzzing when they're there and don't have any particular interest in another team. He would undoubtedly say the same about any other team too.

Oh and he forgot to mention the myths that Chelski actually deserve their current success, and couldn't have done it with out the 'Special One'...

All I would say to that is that the atmosphere at the two Champions League semi-finals in 2005 could not have been more marked. Everyone at Anfield was passionate and desperate for our team to win, while the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge for such a big match was poor.

Maybe the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge was not rocking because people were too busy trying to get things going...

Our fans were amazing at Stamford Bridge that night.

I think the thing about it is, our fans generally like most others, BUT, when the occasion demands it, Liverpool fans can raise their game more than any other fans. On days like that it makes me realise the difference between us and them.

The captain of LFC states this in his book. And, I am not sure if its in also, but players from Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U have also stated to him that they think our fans are the best around at creating an atmosphere.
