S-P was the hero against Olympiakos and against Luton. Without him, i doubt we'd have won either trophy.

I hope we can keep him and give him first team football

Yup, Hughes had no interest in signing FSP. I think both are gonna's. FSP could move to another Premiership club and Le Tallec back to his homeland. If we get half of the £6m that we paid, I'll be happy.I wonder if Rafa will replace "the gems" with some more gems.

If we get half of what we paid  , why is so many people on here happy to take half or less than what we give for them, we get f**ked around so much by other teams re transferes  , lets keep the lad, not flog him or send him on loan. look at the forwards we have at the moment, good cover IMO FSP that is

Because we overpaid in the 1st place and they aren't worth more than £3M, if that? Keeping them is unlikely to change that, as they'll not get any better unless they play every week, and they aren't going to play every week for us.

Bring back Otsemobor. Outstanding against Southampton a couple of seasons back. Took a bullet in the a*** as well. Can't ask for more than that.

I'm not only talking about goals, he was a good impact sub, regardless of whether he scored. My point was when we will get nothing for fee and save very little on wages, why are people so eager to get rid?

Because some people, me included, dont think he's good enough.

So you wouldn't even admit he contributed, crucially, to our trophies the last 2 seasons,

"someone else would have scored those goals anyway" perhaps?

Not good enough for what? to be a 4th or 5th striker, off the bench, give me a break.

Of course i'd admit he contributed because he quite clearly did, it's not rocket science is it?

He isnt better than Crouch, he isnt better than Bellamy, he isnt better than Fowler and he wont be better than whoever else we sign upfront.

He isnt better than Gerrard, he isnt better than Garcia and he wont be better than anyone else we sign for the right.

Theres no point keeping a player who isnt good enough, thats just my opinion, i'm sorry two goals against a Division 1 team and playing well against Olympiakos wont change it so you dont get upset but there you go.

We should get Smicer back, played well in the CL Final didnt he? He "contributed" to our trophy win so we must get him back, right? Should never of got rid of Biscan, he had some good games and was instrumental in our CL run at times. Should never of got rid, afterall he had some good games right?

Jeez, you're he 'just ain't good' enough is not exactly based on anything though. Who says he ain't as good as Fowler or Crouch ? He's still a kid, and there's every possibility he still goes on to become a player of substance.

He's looked very effective virtually every time we've brought him on as a sub, and it's a reasonable shout to want him to stay.

It's based on the fact he hasnt been very good imo when he's played for us. He hasnt looked "very effective virtually every time we've brought him on as a sub" either, he's had some very good sub appearances but that line is b******s.

Rafa Benitez seems to think he isnt as good as Fowler or Crouch, Mark Hughes cant think to much of him either otherwise i'm sure he'd want him, he wont command that much of a fee so theres obviously something Hughes doesnt like.

I'm not having a go at the lad, I just dont think he's good enough for a team/squad challenging for the title, is that such a crime?

If he's as good as people think, i'm sure Benitez will keep him and use him often, if not i'm sure we'll have some big clubs knocking our door down eh?

But when some, by your own admission, "very good sub appearances" are almost all the opportunities he has had, surely he must be judged on that evidence?

If he wants to be a first 11 player somewhere else, fine, if he's prepared to fight for his place, he is worth having in the squad as he offers something different than any of our current strikers doesn't get paid much, and wouldn't be worth much in terms of fee if we sold him.

"Very good sub appearances" could count as 2 games out of 100, it's still no reason to keep him for me. Wages, transfer fee or whatever dont come into it, i'm talking about his football ability and I dont think he's good enough. He doesnt offer something different now either, Bellamy has everything he has and a hell of a lot more, i'd rather keep Mellor first than Pongolle (Although I think both should go). He's had more poor games than good but some choose to only remember the good. As i've said a few times, Biscan, Smicer etc all had plenty of good games or "good sub appearances" it doesnt mean they should of been kept just like Pongolle shouldnt whether he's 20 or 25, on 1k a week or 20k a week.

I'm with CarraLeg on this - I just don't think he's that good!

I'd be more than happy to see him stay mind, as a 4th/5th forward- but there lies the problem - I don't think he'd be willing to stay, as a squad player, who maybe gets only a handful of starts a season. And I really think thts about his limit here - he simply hasn't shown enough to be considered more than a squad player.

Don't blame him like if he wants out, cos he's at the stage of his career where he'll be looking to play a heck of a lot more games.

It's been a bit of a tough run for him here, cos he didn't really get that many games early on, and then by the time Rafa came here, he hadn't really developed enough as a player to be pushing others to be a first team regular. Guess it's just been a bit of a catch 22 situation for Pongo.

thats a rather bizarre cheap shot.

Go and see how I towed the party line when there was a nasty rumour about Heskey coming back, or when we where supposedly interested in defoe. Then come back and apologise for your cheap shot.

Truth hurts sometimes. :bleh:

Oh, OK, I'm sorry, it was a cheap shot ..... ;)
