Used to think his articles regarding Spain were decent, but he's just gone down about 500 notches in my estimation.

This is his end of season review for La Liga:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story...=europe&cc=5739

I quote;

1. Goalkeeper. Andrés Palop (Sevilla). This is always tricky, because there are so many good 'uns in Spain, but I'll stick out my neck for this guy. He stuck it out for six seasons at Valencia, totting up the ridiculous amount of 43 games in all that time. The reason was of course Santi Cañizares, but maybe he should have moved sooner to pastures new. Stay-at-home indecision apart, once given the first-team gloves at Sevilla, he has excelled. Great shot-stopper, good in the air too. Should have gone to Germany as third-choice, instead of Liverpool's Reina.

Now I rate Palop, but that is bloody ridiculous, especially as a case could be made for Reina to be the no.1 Spanish keeper instead of Casillas, nevermind no.2 (think Canizares will be no.3)....

canizarez is 3rd choice indeed, so he should at least get his facts right :D

As you say, question should be whether Reina should be in with a shout at pushing Iker Casillas from the #1 spot.

Not that I expect that to happen, but it's a worthier query than whether Palop should be 3rd choice in front of Canizarez.

Given he couldn't dispalce him for 6 years at Valencia the argument is probably over :)

I was listening to someone on a radio chat show (pundit, not caller) that watches alot of Spanish football and reckons that though Reina is a top keeper, there was another 1 or 2 candidates that had an equally good chance of going.

What programme was that and who was teh pundit? Wasn't "Off the Ball" was it?

haha ... torres would go down really well with the fans ...

and the player who gave most balls away (396) was Fernando Torres

actually that article has some really interesting figures. i'd be interested to know who the top players were for goal assists, successful tackles, etc in our domestic league. the only stats i've ever come across before were really basic - goals, number of minutes player, number of games played, etc. anyone know if there is anything free with that kinda of info out there?
