and to be fair the glory hunters of the 70s and 80s are what keep yours so high too.

expect an increase after last year also.

Every big club has glory hunters, your's more so then ours, due to the fact of the highly succesful 90's, I firmly believe that our hardcore fans out number the Man utd fan base.

Posted

well id argue that due to your successful 70s and 80s youve more who joined as glory hunters.....everyone not born in the city of liverpool and who started supporting them from around 65 to 90 is a gloryhunter.

That's just silly.

I'm not from liverpool. I started supporting them for 2 reasons. I thought Grobelaar was funny - my dad bought a book about him called "bring on the clown" or something and it had funny pictures of him in it - doing handstands and wearing daft clothes. When you're 8 these things are important.

I also played up front as a kid, and there was no one better than Rush, so I watched him.

were they top of the league...in europe?

gloryhunter

;)

sorry lad, but theres nothing more pathetic than a liverpool fan calling UTD fans gloryhunters and then not accepting the fact that they could have the term applied to them....especially as its generally for the exact same reason....except as you all like to point out with more titles and european trophies to gloryhunt for.

I started supporting them in 1968, about a month after your lot won the EC.

Does that make me a gloryhunter as well?

yes.

Of course we were. The only reason that made a difference was because they were on telly more. I was probably about 6/7 when I started supporting liverpool - the concept of glory hunting is alien at that age -you invariably support the team you see the most, or the individual players you take a shine too. I'd accept that's how your lot got a lot of supporters in the 90's. Deciding you support a particular team/changing support when you get a bit older, i.e. teens and above - that's glory hunting.

quite agree....but that definition is never made clear when just calling all UTD fans gloryhunters.

just pointing out, as it needs to be done now and again, the hypocrisy of those who use the term but started supported liverpool after a league win or an FAcup win or european cup etc etc.

liverpool were on telly more back then because they reached more finals....its inevitable that theyre gonna pick up support that way....its just those who do would not see themselves as gloryhunters and as you say at that age the concept is alien.

yes.

...says the man not even born, brought up in or or living in the same country, let alone city as the team he supports...Glory O'Hunter indeed! :D

you firmly believe away ant, i know loads of people who firmly believe every word in the bible is true, doesnt make it so though.

aint denying that.....started supporting UTD after watching them win the FAcup in 1977...if by the context im using then yep im one too....but then so is probably every fan of utd or liverpool in ireland.

I would accept that - saving those that have been brought through generationally.

Didn't know you knew big Ian... ;)

There was a time in the early/ mid 90s when United fans were just coming out of the closet everywhere - people who didn't have any interest in football were suddenly United fans and that was just particularly sickening. As soon as you went through your first 'slump' though they then became Newcastle/ Arsenal fans... they probably support Chelsea now.

but im guessing that didnt happen in the late 70's and 80s with liverpool and other teams supporters. oh no...couldnt have. ;)

I'm sure it did but I thought I dealt with that in the last line of my post which you forgot to quote. ;)

To be honest I thought I was agreeing with you.

In fact the line about them supporting Chelsea could be seen as saying most of your light weight glory hunters have moved on...
