Why is it irrelevant? Carlton Cole would be an improvement on N'gog, dosen't mean he would have been a good signing? Downing and Henderson may improve us but what if the teams that finished above us last season sign better players and improve even more? It's not enough just to improve

Question to those that think Downing and Henderson will be good signings. Would you feel the same if Roy was still our manager and signing them?

It's about quality not where a player comes from. Phil Jones, Gary Cahill and Leighton Baines would all be good signings. But the fact remains you generally get better quality abroad at cheaper prices. Signing young English players with potential is a good policy as long as the price is right. We should be finding and signing the likes of Henderson when he's playing for Sunderland reserves like we have done with Sterling. You don't spend upwards of £13 million on someone that may or may not turn into a top player. For £13 Mill + you want to sign proven players. I bet there are numerous players on the continent you could get for less than that who are much further advanced than Henderson.

I'm not buying this either. Sure there will be some players that want Champions league football but I don't believe we can't sign anyone of say Suarez's ability because we are not in the Europa League. Plenty of players will want to sign for Liverpool. The point i'm trying and others are making is that the players we are being linked with are no better than we already have so why spend for the sake of spending? What is our price range? No one knows. It's the job of Comolli to find these players. Moussa Sissoko is better than Lucas, currently playing for Toulouse and as far as I know not playing in Europe next season. Point is there are players are out there.

Nothing wrong with that policy at all, in fact i would rather we did live within our means, that does not mean we can't buy top class players. Did I read somewhere that the team Lille built cost 14 Mill? Hazard, Gervinho, Rami etc? lol my dissatisfaction at the thought of Dann, Adam, Downing, Henderson, Barton and Lennon signing that obvious?

We are being linked with some incredibly average players. Either we are struggling to attract out first choice players for whatever reason or this is all just newspaper gossip.

To be honest with you I don't pay much attention to stats. I do think Mata is a better player than Young I think he also has the potential to be the best winger in the country if he signed (I think he has more ability than David Silva) Of course there is no guarantee he would be a success but that is the chance you take. Young is very good and I would be delighted if he signed but don't think hes better than wingers at clubs that finished above us. That's why I think we need two wingers with one being potentially outstanding.

Only if we sign Mata or someone of similar ability as well.

I agree it would be a great start if more quality was to come in I wouldn't fancy our chances of breaking into the top four wish just those additions. Obviously you can't tell how a player will adapt (Mata) but he has undoubted quality more so than Young or any other winger in this country and should he adapt we would have a potential world class player. With talk of wide players I really hope Lennon isn't a target.

I like Young, better than Downing but not as good as Mata. I hope it's not a case of only one of them signing unless it's Mata.

We don't really know what money we have. What we have that city don't is reputation. There will be more players like Suarez that will want to sign for us.

I don't think us not being in europe is that big a deal. City were still able to sign who they wanted over the last few years. Money talks.

You would pleased if those were our main deals then? You see who the top four from last season will sign. As much as a genius Kenny is no one would break that top four unless quality players are brought in. I'm not going to pretend to be happy with Dann, Downing and Adam and players with similar averageness. Suggestions Mata is first choice with Downing as backup that would be like when we were trying to sign Alves a few years back and ended up with Pennant.

Dann, Downing and Adam - exciting times ahead. Seriously if these are main signings I don't see us finishing higher than 5th next season.

Downing is about the same standard as Riera. Not as good as Valencia, Nani, A.Johnson, Silva, Malouda, Walcott and Bale. Wingers at teams that finished above us, we need to sign players who are at least as good, if we can't we should sign a youngster with potential like Oxlade Chamberlain. Signing players just because they are better than what we have now is not the answer unless they are better than what are rivals have as well.

I think we all knew Suarez was potentially excellent, how quickly he settled dosen't come into it it's the risk you take like with any player, but no one is surprised at Suarez's quality we all potentially felt he had it in him when he signed. We can all name similar players but what's the point? The likes of Dann, Adam, Downing and Parker are players we have seen for years nothing they can do now will turn them into anything but decent footballers, alright as squad players, alright as first teamers for a top half team, good enough to start for a team with aspirations of winning the league? Not for me.

I think at the moment that's speculative, I don't think we have any idea at this stage who we can and can't attract. But where is the sense in signing players if they are no better than what we have now? For example I have no idea if say Dann is a target but is he better than Skrtel or Agger? Is Adam better than Meireles? And so on... It is my hope we sign quality players (Like Suarez) and the likes of Skrtel and Meireles become our squad players, if we need to fill the numbers we play and sign more youngsters, we have already seen the likes of Flanagan and Robinson step in and not look out of place. Signing the likes of Wickham and Oxlade Chamberlain would be my preference as they have the potential to be the quality we need.

Difficult to answer Epic, I'm not trying to come across as difficult, but to get back into the top four next season and beyond we need more quality. The likes of Parker, Downing, Adam and Dann etc are good players but I don't feel they are any better than what we currently have, some of them may add additional options but i'm fed up of signing 5-6 squad players. I would rather we signed 2-3 world class players (if obtainable) and build from there.

Parker is not good enough to improve us sufficiently, neither is Downing, Adam or Dann. There all average to decent players much as we have now. If we have aspirations for challenging for the title we need better, much better.

I can't help it Boca its what has happened in recent seasons that has done it! My positivety is only starting to recover. Not only that but we seem to have fans that would see the likes of Adam, Dann, Matuidi and Downing as good enough signings! I'm happy to wait and see what transpires and hope I'm completely wrong but see us signing at least 2 of them!

Matuidi, Downing, Dann, Adam all linked in recent days hope we don't end up in a situation where we don't sign any of our top targets and are left with players that are no better than what we currently have.

It wouldn’t be a bad thing in terms of strengthening the squad but I think Lucas should be more of a squad player next season. If we are looking at bringing in two wingers Gerrard may well drop into a deeper role I would rather a better ‘Lucas’ to play alongside him such as M’Vila. M'Vila Gerrard Young Suarez Mata Carroll

Matuidi is decent don't think he's any better than Lucas personally. Think M'Vila and Sissoko are better. That's the concern if we have 3 targets for every position we want to strengthen that we end up with the third choice each time.
