I'm not writing him off I think he's a good player just struggle to see him conjuring up chances for himself like we've just seen with Suarez

Worry with Carroll is I struggle to see other then his ariel abiliy what he will offer us! A lot of money to pay...

Only concern I have is for £35 mill is you want the player himself to create his own chances, especially in games like last night when the team aren't performing. Much like Suarez has shown against Wigan and West Ham. Obviously they are very different players and Carroll is short of match practice/fitness but so far struggle to see where he will impact games by himself and that he will need players around him to perform to get the best from him.

Thing is Wilson cost what 2 mill? Carroll at 35 mill should be one of the best players in the world! Should be standing out in a game like this...

Anyone concerned by Carroll? Early days of course but 35 million?

I rather he went to City or Chelsea then the Mancs or Arsenal. But i think its a definate he's off. Just hope he is sold to a foreign team.

Flanders no offence but some of those players are Hodgson-esque - Given, Downing and Diarra. Enrique whilst looking good this season is risky and Young is decent without being top class. Cahill would be a good signing. No doubt that they are all better that what we currently have but perosnally think we should be aiming a little higher. Adler, Neuer, Coentrao, Cahill, Subotic, Marin, Turan, Hazard, Sanchez, M'vila oh and no i'm not suggesting we sign all of them!! just think thos ementioned are of a higher standard.

This is how I see it going... Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression the 4 steps before Acceptance. I went through them all with Torres. I won't do the same with Reina. Unfortunately I think I have already accepted he is going in the summer and accepted he will join another english team. There are far to many stories. The Reina quotes to the spanish press a few weeks ago were never denied. I think our only hope of keeping him was finishing in the top four (Not going to happen) Currently we are at the denial stage, slowly we will realise that Reina wants to leave and we will be angry with him, purslow et all we will then be discussing how much we will get for him and who we will sign as his replacement, we will be linked with the likes of Robinson which coupled with Reina's departure cause the depression. finally we will accept he has signed for Arsenal or the Mancs and we start the new season with a goalkeeper we rate but not as highly as Reina.

Definately need a new LB in the summer and watching Enrique at Newcastle this year has improved massively, and his crossing is very good and consistent. Nice to see him linked today.

If he goes to Arsenal that would be just as bad in my view, has to be abroad this time.

Where does the £20 mill figure come from? Did I read somewhere that the clause only becomes active if we fail to qualify for the Champs league and that Torres's release clause excluded the Mancs? Although I think it would be just as bad if he signed for Arsenal!

Anyone old enough to remember Tony Hateley? Carroll being compared to him by a few Mancs. I only know what I've read that he was good in the air but lacked any real technical ability.

Really? Who is as good as or better then Reina at 20 mill? If they existed the likes of a*** and Manu would be signing them instead! Unlike Torres we can't cover the loss with two players! Replacing Reina would be much harder then Torres

I don't care about the transfer fees it's not something we need to get involved in. Kenny stated he would spend the clubs money as if it was his own, if he thinks Carroll is worth it then who are we to question it? I'm excited looks to me we now have new owners who are intent on winning I only see what's happened so far as positive, this is just the first step. The Torres situation was forced upon us and that was down to the previous regime. Torres would not have left if we were competing in the league and Champions league. The only major negative I can still see happening is Reina leaving in the summer, again to an english team and again if this does happen it will be down to the legacy left by our previous owners. The priority now is to ensure Reina stays long term and we add to the team\squad in the summer with more signings like Carroll and Suarez.

Only thing with blaming the agent is I recall loads blaming Gerrard's agent Struan Marshall when he was about to sign for Chelsea, turned out their was nothing in that. Unfortunately I think Torres knows what he's doing only a late change of heart can turn this around.

I don't think losing Torres is the issue here it's who we are losing him to! Have we ever lost a top player to a rival before? Have the Mancs? If this goes through it sets a precedent that our best players can be bought! We should prepare ourselves for Reina signing for Arsenal in the summer.

If Torres left it wouldn't be a disaster, unless it was for another english team. If Barca were interested I would rather sell to them for £35 then getting £50 from Chelsea.

Why would Suarez want to sign if he knows Torres is leaving? Also didn't Balague claim Pacheco wanted to leave and a week later he signed a new contract!

I'm not concerned. This Chelsea bid seems to be bravado, of course we arent going to accept £35 mill a couple of days before the transfer deadline. For this to happen Chelsea need to bid £50 and Torres has to state he wants to leave. Obviously I am biased but I don't see Chelsea as being a better option for him. The team is ageing and needs new signings, there is uncertainty with regards to Ancelotti as it stands they have similar problems to ourselves.

If its really that simple then the obvious question is why are we not matching or making a better offer? Obviously at this stage it's purely speculation but I was under the impression signing the best young talent on the market was high on the list of the new owners plans? Seeing Chamberlain sign for Arsenal would suggest otherwise...
