Is Downing better than Payet who cost £11? No idea if they would cost less that £15 Mill can you tell me we can't sign Hazard for £20Mill with us not being in the champions league? Your asking me to answer an impossible question. I recall plenty of Boro' fans moaning about Downing! Anyway what does that prove? Several of our fans booed Lucas, does that mean he's not good enough?

Where is the evidence we can't sign these players if we're not in the Champions league? I've seen nothing from Downing that would tell me he is significantly better than Rodriguez.

Why less than £15 Mill? We have just had a bid of £15 Mill rejected, Downing we are told will cost £20 Mill. Also the fact Downing is mates with Carroll is neither here nor there. The only way I can answer your questions with evidence is by deals that have already taken place. Payet scored 13 goals last season how much did he sign for Lille? About 11 Mill? It's impossible to answer your questions just like it's impossible to answer that player's like Hazard and Mata would turn us down because we are not in the champions league yet it dosent stop people claiming that to be fact.

Okay so if we look at why Dalglish may want Downing. Traditional winger, left footed, good crosser etc. The point I and others make is that there are other players in world football that have similar attributes to Downing with the same or more ability that would not cost upwards of £15 mill.

I'm glad someone else has noticed this, the notion that a player will reject a team solely on the fact there not in the Champions league is ludicrous.

Your correct we have been and I hope those are our real targets but I think it's a little bit more than speculation that we are trying to sign Adam and Downing. Add Commoli's comments about prioritising the signing of players that have played in the premier league and the evidence thus far points to us doing just that

Whether it’s b******s or not is largely irrelevant as Milner appears to be the blueprint of the type of signings we can expect. I remember under Roy being linked with Huth, Brunt and Carlton Cole and everyone was up in arms at the prospect of those player signings but you compare them with what we are being linked to now the policy and the names seem very similar.

As much as I don't want to agree with it I see very little wrong with Samuel's article. We know when we signed Henderson Commoli said something along the lines of prioritising the signings of British based players, Tony Barratt retireated this point on Talksport the other day. You only have to look at the players we have been linked with. Dann, Adam, Downing, Lennon and Milner the only one imo who could prove value for money is Adam, the others would cost far to much in relation to what they will bring. I certainly see similarities between what we appear to be doing and what Spurs did under Comolli.

People want Dann to be good because he's scouse and supports us. The reality is he's average and no better than most centre backs in the premiership, a partnership with Carra and all you will see is long balls to Carroll
