-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- League Managers' Association confirm Rafa Benitez contact RAFAEL Benitez has been given "advice, support and encouragement" by the managers' union as the battle for control of Liverpool comes to a conclusion. Liverpool are bracing themselves for the expected announcement this week that American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have clinched a £350million re-financing package. And that comes as the extent of the fans' animosity to the co-owners has become apparent, with two polls showing a vast majority of the club's support want the Americans out. If Hicks and Gillett do gain a stronger hold on the club they bought with bank loans last February, it is likely to signal another major step towards boss Benitez's departure. And the League Managers' Association have become involved at this stage to offer advice to Benitez. The LMA's new chief executive Richard Bevan, in a BBC Radio Five Live interview, has admitted the organisation has been in touch with Benitez. This has clearly come following admittance by Hicks that he and his partner Gillett held talks with Jurgen Klinsmann to discuss the German taking over at Anfield. Bevan, who is the former chief executive of the professional cricketers' association, said: "Yes, we have been in touch with Rafael Benitez. "We have provided advice, support and encouragement. But obviously we are unable to say any more." It is believed that advice could be of a legal nature, with Benitez's position being undermined by his employers. http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverp...64375-20386390/

Latest from tony barratt in the Echo today............... TOM Hicks has repeated his desire to hold on to his stake in Liverpool Football Club – and also insisted co-chairman George Gillett is not interested in selling up either. As revealed in yesterday's ECHO, Dubai International Capital is ready to launch its second bid to buy into the club in less than a year. But Hicks is adamant any such approach will fall upon deaf ears. A spokesman for the Dallas-based multi-millionaire said: "Any suggestion that Messrs Hicks and Gillett are contemplating a sale of the club or any portion thereof to DIC or anyone else is categorically untrue." The duo now face a crucial week, both in terms of their own partnership and the future of the club they bought in February last year. A finanacial restructuring deal which will allow them to borrow around £350m from the Royal Bank of Scotland and American investment bank Wachovia is close to completion. If that deal is signed by both parties it will allow them to use the loan to wipe out the initial £218.9m debt accrued when purchasing Liverpool and also give them the necessary finance to start work on the long awaited new stadium. But the new debt would be loaded onto the club, a situation which is causing concern among other members of the club's board. Gillett has remained silent in recent weeks as he contemplates his next move but crunch time is approaching and in the next seven days he will have to decide if the restructuring deal which remains on the table is the right path for both himself and the club to follow. Should he decide not to sign up to the deal then the door will be left ajar for DIC to make their approach. DIC lost out in the pursuit of the former chairman David Moores' majority shareholding last February when its failure to meet agreed deadlines for the takeover enabled the Americans to succeed with a late and more lucrative bid. Though it withdrew acrimoniously from negotiations, DIC has maintained its interest and, having baulked at a £150m asking price for a 15% stake last October, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum's investment company now hopes to capitalise on any disunity between Hicks and Gillett. The statement released by Hicks' spokesman on both of their behalfs suggests there may be no disunity for them to exploit and if Gillett signs up to the restructuring deal it would represent the biggest statement of intent he could make at this time. tonybarrett@liverpoolecho.co.uk Russian Roulette anyone?

Yep, and looking into my crystal ball, it'll be this summer................................on holiday.
-
Proof is in the pudding.
-
What do you think?
-
..................still looking.............................
-
Hold on, I'll just check..........................................
-
Nope, that was just a superb Arsenal game outclassing a well organised team. Don't know how you have the balls to even think that Arsenal would be under suspicion.
-
Aye, quite interesting that.
-
People are suffering from premature ejaculation tonite. Wouldn't want you lot as jurors on my court case. There's no point getting fired up about something that probably won't happen. Geez.

Mine, was............."bell & end"

I know, sad innit. Listened to 606 last night, felt almost suicidal.
-
I think it took us until the week before xmas last season to get 7 points away from home, and after 3 away game, we have 7 points. So, I think our away form has already improved - unless of course, we do not win away from home again for the remainder of the season.
-
Oh, and don't forget Alves flew into John Lennon last night.
-
George, stop reading the BBC sport text transfer page.
-
-
Thought it was alot easier to get in, just zip your card, and bob's your uncle. Downside, you've got to keep an A4 piece of paper on you, and you don't get to keep ticket stubs, but overall.................
-
Good, we're turning into the Chav's - buying players to f*@~ up other teams. Rafa's going big stylie for old slur alex. I like the new Don, Rafa.
-
Crouch ain't going anywhere. Mark my words.
-
Good news. All the important players signing extensions. Finnan next, I expect.
-
Y'see, I'm slightly puzzled here. At the mo' apparently there's trouble afoot; we're skint, Rafa's quitting, there's in house squabbling between the owners etc, etc........ ...........yet............ ..............we're about to spend a huge wedge of money on Torres, and another 11 million on another unknown player. My poor little head hurts.
