The press will always go for the easy target. At the moment that is Benitez. With his failed rotation policy, random team selections, inability to beat even the lowliest of opposition with any degree of comfort and an uncanny knack for getting the worst out of previously good players, he has given them that target. I don't think for one minute he would be filling the back pages, on what seems a daily basis, if we looked like a team that has spent £140 million in the last 4 years. Or a team that stuck 4 past the mighty Barnsley. Or if we weren't desperately trying grab 4th place. The have got a whiff of blood and they are not going to let it go until he gets the elbow. With more than a little justification, I think.

I didn't mean that we defend that way, just that any team can produce a good defensive unit. But thinking about it, Kuyt does spend a lot of time in our area when he could be offering an outlet further forward.

It is one thing being hard to beat, any team can put bodies behind the ball. Our problem is a complete lack of any worthwhile attacking ability. We have a side full of defensive minded players who, for the most part, can't pass the ball forward. In Masherano, Gerrard, Alonso and Lucas we have a group of highly talented players. The problem being, Gerrard aside, none of them know where the goal is. As for our strikers, we all know how bad they are. Can you imagine where we would be had Torres got a long term injury at the start of the season? There is no way Benitez is going to suddenly become adventurous, he doesn't know how. He is very much from the same mould as Houllier in that the first priority is to avoid defeat. That is all well and good, but it won't win titles. In fact it won't even get close.

I think you will find most players can't guarantee who they will be playing for next season. And I'd wager the vast majority couldn't care less. The bigger picture is this. Benitez has taken us as far as he can. We are all eternally greatful for Istanbul, but time marches on. At the moment we are living on past glories.

Are you for real? The so called fans who are backing the fool are the ones who should suffer. We will continue to go backwards as long as Benitez stays. He is not good enough to run this club. We need new ideas and less excuses.

I wasn't sure we could play this badly. Worse than Houllier. Worse than Souness. If Hicks and Gillet do just one good thing for this club, then it must be to sack Benitez.

If we were playing well and losing, that would be fair enough. But the tripe we are being served this season deserves to be out of the top 6. I would say that Benitez has peaked, a long time ago, and is now in freefall. For someone who is an alledged tactical genius, his magnificent plan is being undone by all these managers who apparently aren't good enough to boss LFC. And don't get me started on the 'He's had no money' rubbish. I don't see Moyes buying the likes of Torres, Lucas, Babel etc. etc. But after their usual tiny spend, they are smugly sat above us in the table. Maybe our league position is a bit false, currently our form would suggest we are a bottom 4 team rather than a top 4 one. This reminds me so much of the end of Hoofier. so many fans still supporting the manager despite the obvious problems. Claiming the man just needs more time, money, luck. Dragging it out for months and months. The inevitable outcome is Benitez will go. The only concern is when and will it be in time to save our season.

Although I'm sure the off field events have some bearing on the players morale, it is still Benitez that picks the team, motivates them and applies the tactics. We do have players of the required ability, but they are stifled by the rigid and negative tactics we employ.

No, but I'm not about to jump on the 'blame the board' bandwagon. Benitez is the one in charge of the team and the team isn't performing.

Here are my concerns: Benitez' players aren't up to the job. Benitez' tactics don't work. Benitez won't play his best 11 consistently. Benitez thinks he is more important than reality would suggest. It would be better all round if we had a fresh start before this whole situation goes belly up.
