Neill bidders make offers By Graeme Bailey - Created on 3 Jan 2007 Skysports.com can reveal that Blackburn Rovers have received bids for their wantaway captain Lucas Neill. Neill is entering the final six months of his contract and at Ewood Park and the Australian star has made it clear he does not want to sign a new deal. While Rovers continue to press Neill to sign, they realise that this month will be their last chance to get any money for the player, who has been with them for over five years. Neill joined for £1million from Millwall in 2001, but he decided last year that he wanted to leave the club. His stunning performance at the World Cup for Australia saw a host of clubs sit up and take notice. Liverpool have long been favourites to secure his signature and they lodged a bid for him in August, along with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur - only for Rovers to repel the offers. Barcelona and Milan have since hinted they would be very interested in securing his services, while over clubs in La Liga are also following his situation. Now we can reveal that since the transfer window opened at the start of this month, Rovers have indeed received offers for the 28-year-old. "We know there have been bids put in for him," Neill's agent Peter Harrison confirmed to skysports.com. "There is a lot of interest from England and abroad." It is understood previous suitors Liverpool and Newcastle are again interested, but the interest is so widespread, Neill could have a clutch of offers to consider - should Blackburn accept the bids. http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...ers+make+offers

Hope we don't leave it until last minute as usual. That's a lot of feckin paperwork.

I thought we scraped faxes/e-mails bidding after the Alves transfer went t1ts up. I'm sure we only submit bids via MSN messenger.

I feckin hope it's not James Beattie.

Benitez cleared for Argentine - if he wants him Jan 3 2007 By Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post JUVENTUS have ended their interest in West Ham United's Javier Mascherano - leaving the path clear for Liverpool to move for the midfielder. But Rafael Benitez has not yet decided whether to press ahead with his attempts to sign the £6million-rated Argentina international. Mascherano is seeking a way out of Upton Park and has made just seven appearances, playing only six minutes in the past two months. Representatives of the 22-year-old recently held talks with Italian outfit Juventus after being ruled out of new West Ham manager Alan Curbishley's plans, but the Serie B side have now ended negotiations. Benitez remains keen on Mascherano but, with Bolo Zenden closing on a return to fitness and Momo Sissoko targeting a February comeback, the Spaniard will soon have ample midfield resources. There is also the significant obstacle of whoever signs Mascherano having to request special dispensation from FIFA, with regulations preventing the midfielder from playing for another club this season after also appearing for Brazilian team Corinthians. Mascherano signed a four-year contract with West Ham on transfer deadline day in August, but he and compatriot Carlos Tevez have failed to impress. Meanwhile, Liverpool defender James Smith has joined Scottish First Division side Ross County on loan until the end of the season. http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0500liv...-name_page.html

Agree about our early form (away from home), as we have the best home record in the Premiership. Still a very long way to go. A lot could happen. Champions league starting up again and possible injuries could influence it also. FA cup as well. It'll be interesting to see how it'll all unfold...

Haven't seen any of tonights action, but he's been great in a piss poor Charlton side. Hope the experience/regular games will only improve him.

Who would have thought that the Chavs would have dropped 6 points to the likes of Fulham, Reading (at home) & Villa. It's the "lesser teams" that could cause all of us massive headaches.
-
If games could be played on a bit of paper, they'd be great.
-
I thought I'd bump this with the Chavs only drawing 0-0 at Villa Park. Gooners won 4-0 against Charlton. Updated table: P GD PTS 1 Man Utd 22 34 54 2 Chelsea 22 20 48 3 Liverpool 22 16 40 4 Arsenal 22 22 39 5 Bolton 22 6 39 6 Portsmouth 22 11 36 This is a bit of fun: http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal...tor/default.stm What a weekend the 20/21st Jan will be. Us v Chavs on Saturday, Gooners v Mancs on Sunday.

Whilst were flogging Momo, should we buy Upson and sell Carra?

Nailed on!!!

Bit difficult when he only scores once every five years.
-
By all accounts, Neill's form has been superb. Maybe Rafa can work out a way in which he doesn't allow him to make any challenges in the penalty box.

Knee jerkers are the best.

Linked again with Ashley Young... Never really seen him play. Is he any good?
-
All that's been missing from his game is goals in recent weeks. Hopefully he'll go on a goal getting run after his well deserved goal he got today.

We have the best home record in the Premiership. We've sorted out our away form (minus the blip at Blackburn, which we should have won), so we'll see what happens. The top two still have to play each other and Arsenal and have some other intriguing games to face as well. As long as it's mathmatically possibly, we're still in it.

Saturday, 06 January 2007 FA Cup Liverpool v Arsenal, 17:15 Tuesday, 09 January 2007 Carling Cup Liverpool v Arsenal, 19:45 Saturday, 13 January 2007 Barclays Premiership Watford v Liverpool, 15:00 Saturday, 20 January 2007 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Chelsea, 12:45 Tuesday, 30 January 2007 Barclays Premiership West Ham v Liverpool, 19:45 Saturday, 03 February 2007 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Everton, 12:45 Saturday, 10 February 2007 Barclays Premiership Newcastle v Liverpool, 15:00 Wednesday, 21 February 2007 UEFA Champions League Barcelona v Liverpool, 19:45 Saturday, 24 February 2007 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Sheff Utd, 15:00 Saturday, 03 March 2007 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Man Utd, 15:00 Tuesday, 06 March 2007 UEFA Champions League Liverpool v Barcelona (agg 0-0), 19:45 Saturday, 17 March 2007 Barclays Premiership Aston Villa v Liverpool, 15:00 Saturday, 31 March 2007 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Arsenal, 15:00 I know you shouldn't look any further ahead then your next game, but after I was looking through some of our fixtures over the next 3 months, simply makes your mouth water. We have to face Mancs, Chavs, Gooners (three times), all at Anfield. I hope we can address some of our humiliating defeats from earlier this season and cannot see any reason why we can't beat the lot of them given our impecable home record (unbeaten at home in the league for 27 games now, best run since 1981). Add to that Barca home and away, plus possible progression in both Carling and FA cup, then exciting times could be ahead. We have a strong enough squad with players coming back from injury and hopefully at least a couple of new faces to join us in the current window. Could turn out to be a cracking period for us and further beyond. Bring 'em on!!!
