I have seen rumours saying Alvarez’s reps are due over next week to talk to three clubs, us, arsenal and someone else (probably Chelsea). If atletico receive a similar fee to what they paid for him he can go. If true then surely agent macallister can have a word and also use Nunez in some sort of deal.

I don’t think there’s a great deal between them personally, similar stats, similar style, 11 months between them in age and one is half the price. If there’s no impact on the overall squad building then fine but we don’t have a bottomless pit of cash (usually). It’s hardly downing or robben that we’re talking about either here, both top quality players.

Think Simons for half the price of wirtz is far better value (if there’s even a choice!)

If Nunez goes to Saudi for 70m, Elliot for our asking price of 40m-ish, Kelleher for 20m-ish, tsimikas for 10m-ish endo and chiesa for similar fees, maybe jota too for 20m-ish and then add on some youngsters/current loan player sales then we could easily creep towards to the 200m mark in sales.

3 at best is generally what we do but if all we’re doing is signing someone to replace Trent, extra cover at CB and a centre forward then everyone else is staying and I’m not sure that’s the case.

Really depends on what we get for Nunez. If we picked up £70m for him from Saudi then that’d cover a fair whack of the Alvarez fee.

If we’re naming names I’d say Alvarez and rodrygo!

It’ll be really interesting to see what we do in midfield cos there are clear priorities ahead of that area for now and we can’t do everything in one window. I don’t think danns can cover wide though as he’s a number 9 and also seems injury prone and has really played any minutes at all this season. Relying on Gakpo salah and Diaz alone for the wide areas when salah will miss a large chunk of the Christmas schedule is very risky.

I think we need 7 assuming Trent goes RB - to replace Trent CB - to replace Gomes and/or add depth LB - to become a starter and replace tskmikas DM - to replace endo and provide adequate cover/challenge for grav AM - to replace Elliot and provide adequate cover/challenge for szoboslai WG - to replace chiesa CF - to replace Nunez and be starter up top Highly unlikely we do all that though.

Agreed and especially as atletico seem to have an interest in Darwin, got to be some sort of deal there.

Maybe huijsen was an option if Konate wasn’t going to renew and there’s been a breakthrough there and we’re looking at a different profile for CB like the left footed option mentioned earlier.

Some talk of huijsen also wanting a release clause in his contract presumably for the inevitable transfer to Madrid. We don’t do those so be interesting to see how it plays out.
