I'd love us to bring in Guehi and Elliot Anderson in Jan. Then Upamecano on a free in the summer, if he doesn't sign for Madrid in Jan. Anderson would be perfect for us. His numbers are mad - potentially a Caicedo. The big boys will be in for him soon.

Last couple of days I've started trying to find and use the stat sites. So it's dead new to me and I could be way off. That said, it looks like so far he's been asked to play a totally different game than he did at Newcastle. At Newcastle his defensive stats were almost as low as Mo's. The club obviously want to add more to his game. With the defensive frailties up to now it's been especially necessary. In the following table I've compared his stats last year with Newcastle to his stats this year with us in three categories - Goal and Shot Creation, Defensive Actions and Possession. The first column is how many times he carried out the action per 90 minutes played and the right hand column compares him to all other players (in the Prem) playing in his position. He's gone from amongst the fewest defensive actions last year to among the highest this year. He's won more tackles than 94% of forwards this year whereas last year he was in the bottom 6%. He's gone from under 19% of tackles in the defensive 3rd to 90th. His possession and shot creation actions, for example, have nosedived. Now Mo is away we can without distraction play the formations that the summers purchases were brought in for and hopefully Frimpong will be back. He should get more time in the final third and be able to play his game more. They all protect the back four. They all put their foot in. They're all capable of putting crunching tackles in. Things we don't do. You're right they're all top footballers - as well as destroyers - but they all have an edge to their game which Ryan and Curtis don't have.

Caicedo at Chelsea. City have turned to Nico Gonzalez this term. Camavinga at Real Madrid. Zubimendi to a slightly lesser degree, but a lot more than Gravenberch. No coincidence we've tried to sign two of those four. We need one. I'd say it's what we need most after CBs.

It's beyond doubt authority over buying and selling belongs to Hughes. Given the circumstances around Edwards leaving the club and his relationship with Klopp he wouldn't return and appoint Hughes unless that were the case. The club overachieved under Jurgen with a squad that was a little overloaded with players that were good but not exceptional. Hopefully a slightly smaller squad means a higher calibre of players coming in who have the potential to grow into exceptional players. We're at the first stage of a rebuild of the playing staff, moving towards a big change in tactics and formation. This season is transitory. We have to be patient with new signings. We are where City were 12 months ago. Having said all of the above I'm not sure I trust Hughes. I think he'll be very effective but I don't think he 'gets us'.

Was a big mistake by Slot to not keep Robbo as his number 1 from the start of the season and ease Kerkez in. I think the lad will come good though. This is an interesting clip from Adam Clery about the positions Nico O'Reilly took up in the Real Madrid game. O'Reilly is Citys young LB who seems to have a lot of similarities to Kerkez if the stat sites are to be believed. What's interesting is Kerkez has been taking up similar positions all season (and getting ignored, mostly by Gakpo). We're totally rebuilding the team and we're buying young. Kerkez and Wirtz, alongside Bradders, are 22. Ekitike, alongside Gravenberch, is 23. Frimpong and Isak have just turned 25. No wonder Virge is getting annoyed at some of them - he probably wants them to get off his lawn. Seriously though, he's probably a bit miffed that we're buying a team for the future rather than a team for right now.

Seedorf then pushed the opinion that Slot should initiate contact with Mo. Some people are jumping to conclusions that Slot said Mo should be the one to make contact but he didn't say that. In a separate interview straight after he specifically clarified that he didn't say that. He just said to Seedorf that's your opinion, shutting him down. Gakpo is ninth in the league for goals and assists, Mo is sixteenth. Gakpo helps defend, Mo doesn't. Opponents have consistently been targeting the space behind Mo. Of course Gakpo needs a slap for refusing to pass to Kerkez and should have been dropped a while ago.
