A tight midfield? I'd be thinking more along the lines of a midfield without two passengers on the wings. I'd have reefed Garcia off within the first half. His positions is around the box area not on the wing. Neither of them got behind the defence to put in a cross, easy crosses got lapped up by the Senderos all night. Our plan it seems is to long ball them to death, never going to work tonight.It really relies on defenders making mistakes to get any joy out of that way. A lot of the chances were half chances, scrambles in the box type stuff. As long as resorting to the lowest denominator , long balling it around and barely scraping past terrible opposition remains acceptable... days like today are going to keep happening regularly. When things don't go your way after some good chances to score playing the right way with good football, to quote johnny giles ' You have to have the conviction to keep playing in the right way, passing the ball'. Well it's evident we still don't believe in it because we resort to long ball hoofing far too much.This is just a carry over of the game against Watford, that is a poor side with players who work hard yet can't play.However instead of outplaying them.. we resorted to their garbage football... with players like Alonso and Gerrard in the team.Obscene. The only way a player gets to that level and gets the confidence to play at that level, is to play regularly.
