  1. I know Comolli has a major role in identifying targets etc, but surely these all will have to be authorised / sanctioned by the manager. I just worry slightly about this. If, as we are lead to believe, NESV aim to appoint an "young, vibrant, up and coming manager" in the Summer, Deschamps, Vila Boas, or whoever...... ... will they be willing to release the funds necessary for this transfer window to a manager who may well be gone in May, (even if Kenny is just gone back "upstairs" into his ambassadorial role). Ideal scenario is that Kenny is an unqualified success as manager, and lands the job fulltime. I just hope the owners realise the current situation regarding the strength of the squad, and get their fingers out. There are three weeks left in this transfer window. As bad a season as it has been to date, if the players unite behind Kenny, and the likes of Cole, Torres etc start to play like we know they can, then add two or three quality players, and top four is not beyond us. We need, at the very least, a left back, two footed creative pacy wide man, who could play either flank, and a proven goalscorer. And these need to be top top players, i.e. fifteen million pound bracket, not twenty nine / thirty year old hasbeens, or twenty year olds with potential. We all wait with interest, but given their handling of the manager situation, I am hopeful that NESV will deliver on the player front too.
  2. I am excited at the prospect of Kenny Dalglish taking the reins on a squad that still includes players of the calibre of Gerrard, Torres, Agger, Meireles, Johnson, Cole, Reina etc. Plus rest assured that it will be a clean slate for the likes of Pacheco, and Wilson might even be preferred to Skrtel or Kyrgiakos. Much maligned we might be, but this current squad, especially if two or three proper players are recruited in January, is nowhere near as bad as the crock of sh ite Roy has turned it into.
  3. Jovanovic is a striker primarily - he won the Belgian player of the year, and I think their version of the golden boot, playing upfront for Liege. He has stated publically that he does not like playing on the flanks, but that he will play anywhere for us if it means getting a game. I like his attitude, and think he is deserving of a run upfront ahead of either Babel or N'gog. On the few occasions that he has had chances on goal (Northhampton and recently away at Steuea), he finished tidily. Has not been given a fair crack in his best position.
  4. That will be two weeks too late.
  5. John Henry has promised that, unlike his predecessors, NESV will listen to the fans, and take our opinions on board. Next Saturday, irrespective of the result and performance, chants of "DALGLISH, DALGLISH, DALGLISH" should be heard to resonate deafeningly from the four corners of Anfield. I think more than 95% of LFC fans are in agreement that Hodgson needs to be removed with immediate effect. I can understand the reservations of those who make the argument that Kenny has not managed at the top level for many years, and that "you should never go back" a la Kevin Keegan etc etc. BUT, I would argue the following points ; 1. It simply cannot get any worse under Hodgson, so in my opinion, there is nothing to lose by dismissing him. 2. If Hodgson remains in charge, even until February, the damage could be irreparable, with the likes of Torres, and Reina quite possibly departing. 3. There is a severe shortage of top quality managers available who would consider taking the position mid season. Frank Rijkaard apart, I cannot think of one other candidate who might be potientially available or approachable. 4. Kenny wants the job, there is no doubting that. He has done it all as a player and a manager, and would command the ultimate respect of players and fans alike, uniting the club. 5. Kenny's determination to succeed in the job, and prove a point, could quite conceivably lead to his turning the club's fortunes around, and if he manages that, then he knows that the job is his to lose. Loud and clear next Saturday ; "DALGLISH, DALGLISH, DALGLISH"
  6. Where has this Babel story come from? Twitter? I hope Hodgson has some good last minute deals lined up. I did not rate Aquilani, as he is too lightweight, and rate Babel even less due to his lack of footballing brain, but the squad looks mighty thin when both of them are out of it.
  7. Dominic Matteo was a good player and very competent centre half and left back. Was sold off to raise funds for Christian Ziege to be signed.
  8. That is sensible, but Gulasci is supposedly a great prospect. Would he not count as homegrown? An extra two million put towards a striker could make the difference between a "good" striker, and a top quality one. I would be prepared to take the gamble on Pepe staying injury free in that case.
  9. I sincerely hope that some club has £3-4 million that they are ready to give us for Cavalieri - only then will I understand why £2.3 million of our limited budget has been spent on Brad Jones.

    Dirk Kuyt

Today was exactly the type of game he thrives in. Against the "park the bus" sides, we might be better off with Maxi right mid, but I agree with you that Dirk is a legend, and hugely under-rated.
  11. Forgive my ignorance - who is this guy?
  12. I agree that Masch is worth more than £25 million, but if by some miracle the possibility exists to get Defour in for £10-15 million, assuming that we ae dependent on the money we receive from the Mascherano sale, I would accept £25 million quicksmart, if it meant getting Defour in. He has the potential to be the next Steven Gerrard. It would be a massive massive coup if we signed this guy. I bet any money that if we make an official approach / move for him, Ferguson will also bid.
  13. Apologies, I dont visit there often, just happened to stumble across it tonight. Other posters on there seemed to respect him.
  14. PT on TIA. Can't vouch for him.
  15. It is not just on that site, a supposed ITK has posted an identical claim on the forum of another site also, and claims to be completely independent of KT.
  16. Sorry for starting another thread, but it seems to me, that this is the question more than any other that is crucial. Things don't add up.... Amid all the hysteria and jubilation on Friday, Broughton told us that the Americans "were committed to selling at a reasonable price". Since then we have all read the quotes from the vile obnoxious Hicks, stating how he wants to quadruple his money, by valuing the club at anything upwards to £800 million. These two schools of thought are completely irreconcilable with each other. Who is Broughton answerable to? Who ultimately appointed him ; RBS? Barclays? Hicks and Gillett? Is his brief to sell the club at the highest possible profit to Hicks and Gillett, OR to sell to the bidder who is deemed to be the most favourable in terms of longterm stability of the club? Supposing a reasonable offer is made to buy the club. Independent financial analysts are valuing us at £300 million. So lets say a concrete offer upwards of £400 million comes in. What then? Can Hicks and Gillett reject this outright themselves, or does the offer go before the new five man board, for debate, with a majority decision taken. I would like to think that the latter would be the case, but surely Hicks and Gillett have not created a scenario for themselves whereby they could be forced into accepting an offer against their wishes. If the ultimate power to accept or refuse an offer still rests with them, then nothing has changed, apart from an official admission that they are willing to sell 100% of the club, (which we all knew to be the case anyway). Broughton's appointment in this case could be little more than a PR exercise to buy more time, and deflect attention away from the owners. If Hicks' valuation of the club is allowed to stand, we wont have new owners any time soon...... Can anyone help clarify the situation in this respect?
  17. Carlton or Joe? Both are a damn sight better than a lot of what we have in the squad right now.
  18. The thing about Joe Cole on a "free" is that it will be far from a "free" - his is supposedly looking for a massive signing on fee. I don't think he would come to us anyway.
  19. They are very much dependent on CL revenue to stay afloat in terms of refinancing and loan interest repayments. I would go so far as to say that defeat on Weds night will put them under serious pressure.
  20. I think it would spell the end for the Americans, but the major downside is that I could not see players of the calibre of Torres, Gerrard, Reina, Masch etc hanging around to play in the Europa League.
  21. Sorry for starting another thread about this. Rumours of this guy buying in at 50% are gathering pace, so I thought it merited separate discussion from the general investment thread. Is his wealth any way comparable to the owners of City or Abramovich? More importantly, is he a reputable, upstanding type character, that would would want effectively in charge of the club? If he invests in a 50% stake, that dilutes Hicks / Gillett to 25% each, and they no longer call the shots - that cannot be a bad thing, unless this guy is as bad or worse than them, which would take some doing! Does anyone know anything about him?
  22. Understand your worries mate, and appreciate your sentiments 100%. My opinion is that, irrespective of whether Xabi stays or goes, we need to sign at least 3 players. Lets hope we all feel differently this time 2 weeks eh!
  23. To me this is a no brainer. 5 million is an insult of an offer for Arbeloa. If we accept it we are back to square one regarding lack of quality cover for right back. It was painfully evident last season that we need strength in depth here. Carra no longer wants to play there (remember Middlesboro away). I would tell Real to stuff their offer and keep hold of Arbeloa for next season. It is too crucial a time regarding our title prospects to head into the season with only one quality option at right back. Hopefully if we finally land number 19 Arbeloa might even decide to pen a new deal next Summer. Thoughts?
  24. Unfortunately in the current climate of a player wants out, and the likes of Barca / Real are prepared to stump up for them, Rafa is in a difficult position. And if Hleb could rediscover his form of 2 seasons ago, yes, I would have him.
  25. Hand on heart, you are supremely confident that both Xabi and Masch will be with us for the seasons start? I hope you are right.
