Was asked something along the lines of how close is he to the first team and he answered with the stock version answer of "He'll have a good career in football + has a good touch for a big guy". Nothing negative but was IMHO pretty clear he won't be promoted any time soon if at all.

Care to elaborate?

Might well have been. It might also be the case when it comes to comparing the Italian league during Zlatan's years there compared to the PL Shearer played in.

If you'd actually read what I post then you'd have seen I talked about season after they hit 20 (or basically player born '70 then stats for season '90 and beyond). But since you are just focusing on Shearer's peak instead of comparing their whole careers as players I'd concede that Shearer was better at his peak as a nr 9 than Zlatan has been. I'd argue that Zlatan maintained his "peak" for much longer than Shearer ever did. And that level isn't far off Shearer's best as a nr 9.

It's unfair to highlight the seasons a striker doesn't perform but completely OK to highlight the seasons they perform very well? And playing 26, 36, 17, 19, 28 and 32 games a season with "the odd cruciate knee injury" is a remarkable accomplishment. The point was, because you obviously missed it, that Zlatan has pretty much scored at the same rate his whole career. Shearer didn't. Funny you should mention Weah. He scored 46 goals in 114 matches for Milan. Zlatan scored 56 in 85. The difference between them IMO is that George Weah was generally considered a nice guy. Zlatan... well he's pretty much an arrogant b*****d who very few like.
