I suspect we'll go for a lone striker most of the time, so whoever we sign has to be able to lead the line on his own everything Rafa was saying about systems the other day leads me to believe we'll play 4-2-3-1, with Stevie in the middle of the 3 - sometimes supporting the striker, sometimes supporting Alonso and Sissoko if we require 2 players for each outfield position, then we'll be sorted in defence once we get the left-back and centre-half who look nailed-on. We'll have back up for the midfield 2 (Hamann and Zenden). The wingers will be from Kewell, Gonzalez, Garcia and one other. So we'll need competition/cover for Gerrard: someone who can play in centre-mid, or as a support striker - Nolan, maybe? And we'll need a striker - which is what all of this dull preamble was leading to ... I don't see Owen being the right player for this system. Kuyt may be: I've only watched him twice. (I'd keep Crouch and Fowler, so we'd have one too many players, but feck it.)
