He's played in an attacking role for Spain with success (he was given license to get forwards during the Euro's and played very well), and he was more attacking when he was at Sociedad. Even in his first season here he was allowed to get forwards more. I've no doubt he can do it, but it's case of him being told to sit back.

He doesn't score goals because he's barely allowed to go forwards. His job is to sit and conduct the orchestra, if you will.

It shouldn't be, I've just said in another thread Xabi has been head and shoulders the best player in the league this year, but the longer we continue to play well, the more votes Gerrard will get. IMO he didn't deserve it the last time, and if he wins it this year, I think he'll be a very lucky lad.

The kid needs to be playing regular football now, that's his biggest problem. I thought Rafa got it spot on with him last year, had he played him from the start he'd have flopped massively, but he used the softly softly approach and gave him moreplaying time and starts as the season wore on, and he looked superb. He's got it badly wrong this year though, really. The only way he can improve is by playing regular footy, but Rafa won't give him the starts. I think he's actually played less this year so far than last. If he doesn't start playing more, his talent will be wasted, and we'll have chucked £11M down the swanny.

You're wrong about Babel. Who's shown far more in his 18 months here than Lucas (who has admittedly been playing well of late). Alonso's the Footballer of the Year IMO. Not seen a better player than him in the league this season. Watching him playing is like watching the big 6 foot kid playing amongst the first years at school.

Aye, the right of midfield could do with some attention (although ideally Benayoun will continue to step in and play well, with Babel also able to play there if required), and up front. We need height up top. And more cover for right back. Saying that, Hammil is back from loan and could cover the right wing, and then there's Darby and even Kelly for right back.

If the reports of McGhee pushing Gerrard are true, I'd be making a complaint and getting him arrested for assault and affray.
