You’d have played 10 games against some of the Lique 1 dross. Playing 60 games for us is very different than playing 50+ for PSG. These lads are all good. But they’re also very well rested for their biggest games, always in peak condition. As we have seen to our cost 4 times in two years. £140m plus for Barcola is crazy and should not be considered imo. That money could be better spent on two or three players elsewhere to improve the squad and first team.

I think the manager will have to use the youngsters a fair bit in the early part this season - not in starting games, but perhaps in closing them out. Our number of elite players (partly because of long term injuries at the moment) are too few, too brittle and too slow to play Iraola's style for 60 odd games. If we us ethe same 16 as Slot did they'll be dead on their feet by Christmas.

Last summer we spent a ton of money on a load of what turned out to be terrible signings.....under the manager we had at the time. Iraola will live or die to some extent on what tune he gets out of Wirtz, Isak, Kerkez and Frimpomg. Last year's spending failures, our lack of saleable assets, contract f***ups, DoF f***ups and what smells to me like FSG looking for a way out point to the manager not being fully backed this summer - and that's shameful. I'd be prioritising a top class right back and a centre back (at least one - you all know me by now) ahead of Barcola IF money is an issue.

Can’t remember where I saw it, but I think there was a tweet that Hughes was trying to negotiate a deal on behalf of Al-Hilal for the transfer of Diaz from Bayern. This might all be b******s of course, but if true, Bayern will be in the financial pink and will need a new left winger. Like Barcola.

I'm not convinced Barcola is elite, but he's better than Gakpo. So if we buy Barcola, I'd sell Gakpo and buy Sarr from Palace for the right. We then have Nghoma/Barcola for the left Isak/Munoz/Ekitike for the centre and Munoz/Sarr for the right. We should then still have some money for CB/CM/RB perhaps. Chiesa can cover across the line. Elliott can do bits on the right. Wirtz can do false 9 bits if needed.

I don’t get why we’re lightly beating the new manager for being positive early on, because the previous manager was. A manager who won the League that same season. Why isn’t the default response ‘Klopp was refreshing when he first joined’?

Really sad this. He joined the year I started supporting the Reds. He was never my favourite player (Stevie Heighway was from that first batch, then Cally and Alec Lindsay), but he was clearly a brilliant, clinical footballer and he fought like a b*****d. Mainly Billy Bremner, to be fair. RIP That exact day for me too, and yeah - same response to the match result. The legend status is surely there, but he was the first BIG name to leave or want to leave and that inevitable taints his legacy with us a little.
