The progress he has made in12 months working under Rogers far exceeds anything he achieved in his previous two and a half years in Europe. If one accepts that Benietz 'introduced' him to the different demands of European football then his performances for Inter and in Spain suggest he didn't learn a huge amount. He arrived at Liverpool a player who looked like he had a potentially great career behind him and giving Rafa credit for the changes that have taken place over the last year in his mentality, tactical awareness and practical contribution is generous at best.

Buying him and contributing in a meaningful well to his development as a player are two very different things. His progress in less than a year under Rogers exceeds anything he achieved in his previous three years in Europe.
