  7. This is a new feature of the Europa League. It makes you wonder how many teams are seeing it as a way of qualifying next season. It's a great motivation for the players, hopefully they can respond well to it.

  9. These were my thoughts with the new contract. Get a new number one, he becomes number two on a five year contract. If he's not happy with that he can be sold rather than losing for free. This is the only scenario that makes even a small amount of sense. Although anyone who wants to pay money for him would certainly be brave.

  13. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has warned Pep Guardiola that the greatest challenge he will face in the Premier League is the busy fixture schedule. The German also advises his Spanish rival that the weather in Britain is "not great" but adds the food is "much better than everybody said". Guardiola, 44, who will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, said he plans to work in England next. He has been linked with Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United. Klopp said that the amount of domestic cup games had surprised him following his move to England in October. "The number of games is the biggest difference," he said. "When I came here, I didn't know there were two rounds [legs] in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup. Klopp, 48, said he had received messages of congratulations from friends after his side beat Stoke 1-0 in last Tuesday's League Cup semi-final first leg. "I had people in Germany, saying: 'Yeah, you're in the final again!'" recalled the former Borussia Dortmund boss. "Idiots!" With 12 players out injured, Klopp named an inexperienced team for Friday's 2-2 FA Cup third-round draw at Exeter. He has indicated he will field a similar side for next week's replay. "In Germany, when you tell people that if you draw in the FA Cup, you play again, they say: 'What?' Here you have penalties and extra time, but only after the second game," he said. "That's the thing, it's the number of games... football, football, football." But he insisted that Guardiola is "so experienced" he will cope. "I'm sure he will buy a few players and have a good team... 35 players or whatever," said the former Mainz boss.

  16. It's easy to forget that de Bruyne struggled at Chelsea. It's fairly universal that foreign players need at least half a season, sometimes and often more, to adapt, learn and grow into their new environment. Sometimes they do (de Bruyne, Henry, Suarez etc.) sometimes they don't (Veron, Shevchenko, Diego Forlan). Next season hopefully he will kick on, this season hopefully he gradually adapts. He has the quality, it's just a case of whether he will be successful in showing it in the Premier League.

  19. I really hope some of the team against Watford were there.
  20. One of those convincing wins was against a team that has now exposed themselves as a group who had stopped playing for the manager and one against an inconsistent team based on money more than coaching. It's not meaningless at all - the same players have delivered an equal measure of league results under two different managers, however the measure of the opponents is made. It's obvious Klopp has a superior winning mentality and he needs his players to get on board. The results suggest that hasn't fully happened yet. Hopefully in time the consistency will match the convincing results against all opposition, not just certain ones. The stats show a lack of consistency under both managers this season, that's really all it shows but it's certainly not meaningless.
  21. The point being made I think isn't a direct comparison of coaching ability, it's that the results of the coaching is limited by the players in the squad. Rodgers screwed it up and the results last season and this were not good enough. Personally I think the results since have not been good enough but that isn't down to Klopp (or Kloop) - it's down to the legacy left by Rodgers. Anyone can see it's going to take time to turn this around, and for me the biggest changes are based on playing staff, not coaching staff.
  22. Maybe, and it's possible the results against Newcastle and Watford may have been different too. On balance the same players seem to be getting similar results under different management.
  23. This is still Rodger's team just under a different manager. The stats back this up. Time is needed to turn it from Rodger's team to Klopp's team.
  24. This is absolutely true. They tend to have the same ideas and timing. Without Coutinho he struggles to have the same effect. Quite what Klopp saw on the training field to pair Firmino and Benteke I would love to see on the match field as it looks like it will never work to me.
